  1. https://www.kentonline.co.uk/romney-marsh/news/4x4-rescued-after-getting-stuck-in-shingle-210731/ Had a quiet chuckle over this. Stu
  2. Just to say many thanks to Chris and the team for a really great weekend, thoroughly enjoyed being there with Sheepcroft. Thanks also to all those visitors and exhibitors who stopped by and chatted as well as those who've taken the trouble to put up photos/videos. Arrived back about 10 last night after a good journey though for the first half hour or so sonar would have been a handy optional extra. Cheers Stu
  3. Hi, You might have seen these but if not not. There's a couple of possibly useful shots of the train at Weymouth here though you will need to scroll to nearly the bottom http://www.cornwallrailwaysociety.org.uk/castle-cary-to-weymouth.html Edit - there'sanother shot at the top of train at Castle Cary Also Martyn Read has some coach shots here though I could only find the TSO's mentioned https://ukrailwaypics.smugmug.com/Coaches/Mk2-Coaching-Stock HTH Stu
  4. Hi, Thanks for that. We've already noted your route as a decent alternative and may well use it - whatever it'll all be part of the weekend's fun :-) Cheers Stu
  5. Sheepcroft's all packed up and ready to be loaded tomorrow morning for what will undoubtedly be an interesting (!) drive from east Kent tomorrow. Looking forward to this. Stu
  6. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-49262115 Seems an eminently sensible decision given the mess franchising is in. Hopefully they'll do the rational thing and extend it even further. Stu
  7. Interesting they're USN F-35's. Stu
  8. Which airbrush are thinking about? Some brushes use PTFE rings which IIRC aren't affected but "rubber" O rings do deteriorate over time, often with wear as much as chemical attack. Those on my old Badger 150 lasted a very long time though. An airbrush (and compressor) should be viewed as a long term investment so look at those with a good spares supply. Stu
  9. That alone poses a number of questions but FWIW I would say start simply. Get some Tamiya acrylics and thinners as they are pretty forgiving when it comes to mixes and practice on some bits of card/old models to get a bit of experience. Rail weathering sets have a place but there are plenty of "standard" colours that are useful. You can do basic weathering with Tamiya's Flat Earth+ NATO black either on their own or mixed. Weathering is an art and people get to the same end in a very wide variety of different ways and I'm sure there'll be others with different views. So just my off the cuff thoughts. Good luck and let us know how it's going. Stu
  10. Sad news, someone who brought something to every film he was in. For me Bladerunner is one of my top ten . Perhaps someone else remembers his "Split Second", an SF film set in London with, of all people, Ian Drury in the cast. Stu
  11. One possible solution http://highlevelkits.co.uk/03page.html Stu
  12. Hi Clive, Just checked and they didn't have additional cabinets added. Stu
  13. Hi, A bit late to go rooting around in the study to check any pics (which I'll do tomorrow when I get back) but I don't remember anything new screwed on. Originally they had no train brake so guess there was plenty of empty space in the equipment boxes to stuff a compressor in. They didn't look particularly ex-works when they turned up and crew training was pretty perfunctory considering Weymouth crews had never had any 350 experience before. In retrospect the whole conversion has more than a touch of expedience about it. Thanks Royal Oak, that'll teach me to read things thoroughly...... :-) Stu
  14. Just to update this, not sure where Wiki got the info but four, 15230 - 15233, were A/B'd. 15231 was the errant 3 link equipped one. Hopefully Heljan won't need reminding that the Class 12's had additional pairs of marker lights front and rear. Stu
  15. Hi, They were something of an ad-hoc solution to the lack of air braked shunters for the Bournemouth electrification and were used mainly at Bomo and Weymouth. They only lasted a short time before the A/B'd 03's with high level pipes came along and took over. They could, and did, shunt A/B'd MK 1's and TC's, the latter using hose extensions in the same way as non push-pull Cromptons headed TC units. They were used on the Weymouth Tramway for the Boat trains. At least one arrived with 3 link couplings and had to be hastily supplied with a screw coupling. They worked fine but not particularly liked primarily because of visibility running hood forward down the tram. Definitely on the list but I've been collecting bits to do one from an 08 inspired by EM Gauge 70's http://emgauge70s.co.uk/model_omwb154.html However with a longish wait in prospect may well carry on with it. Stu
  16. Hi Brian, Just a thought but why didn't they use the Lenham freight loops for the "turnback". Stu
  17. Stick 'em back on the route they were intended for;Waterloo - Weymouth. (Sorry, just my 5 pence worth!) Stu
  18. Hi, A few from me You did check the back-to-backs didn't you? The Gillingham re-railing team doing a demo. Stu
  19. Posted a couple of pics from the event here Stu
  20. Some pics from the Hornby stand taken at the Open Day A bigger event and lot more heritage stock here this time. I'll put up some pics if anyone interested though they're not brilliant as weather rather mixed. Stu
  21. The Bournemouth based 03's used at Weymouth in the late 60's/early 70's did a week IIRC before being swapped out overnight. Stu
  22. I'll have my phone handy for when I hear it Intrigued by this bit, wonder where they're going to put this lot, perhaps they're going to jack up a 375 and stick them underneath..........! Stu
  23. Hi, Date photo was taken would be useful plus any info on train formation, eg TC, loco hauled stock, etc There were plenty of Cromptons around for a good year or so before steam ended unless of course you are referring to steam hauled trains. Stu
  24. Comment from the wider modelling community https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235055444-stamford-model-show-such-a-sad-event/&tab=comments#comment-3349283 Stu
  25. I think my feelings and range of reactions have been more than adequately expressed by everyone else. I see there is an update https://www.stamfordmercury.co.uk/news/youths-released-on-bail-after-break-in-at-stamford-welland-academy-9070678/ Happy to support any appeal to help those affected. Stu
