  1. The RT Models contractors wagon will build without modification to run on 00 gauge as the frames have been made 1.5mm narrower. This comes with a simple fold up etched chassis to go under the castings to makes life easier. I've been told by one experienced magazine writer that he loved building his rake send they certainly appear in magazine articles. When I finally built my rake, I put a drop of oil onto the ends where I was drilling for the chains and literally drilled through as if it was butter with out breaking a single drill bit on 5 wagons. It's the Seaham Chaldron wagon that needs modifying, not the chassis but the body due to it being to scale and catching the tops of the wheels in 00 gauge. 009 micro modeller, which wagon did you have trouble with in 009 please?
  2. As I found out half way through the design, the cab is Chaloner as built with a cab in a works photo but must have been removed very quickly. The photo was only presented after the launch of the De Winton book by RCL publications.
  3. Hello everyone, sorry I have been quiet. Yesterday the whitemetal castings arrived for the 4mm scale, 009 gauge dewinton. The photos below show the production model.
  4. Markits does do P4 axles now! In fact I saw a P4 loco with Romford wheels built a long time ago as I was talking to the owner and he extended the axles with washers if I remember correctly,
  5. Washer bottle? What's that? Sorry Alan about all this, at least you know who to turn to locally to scan for bus driver and conductor figures?
  6. At least Alan wouldn't have to use ladders to scan the lamp tops from a open top bus! Although I do miss mine what became a tree lopper at one point but got rid off for the simple reason, the typical British weather!
  7. From about the age of 13, I used to do quite a few demonstrations in rtr loco detailing then later on metal loco kit building from 14 onwards. I think with me being so young it would astound some people as well as encourage along the lines of "well if a 14 year old can do that, so can I". I was building a brassmasters LNWR super D at ally pally the one year and caused a stench using a gas torch due to the brass tube for the boiler, although there was a draught in the hall and kept blowing the torch out! As soon as I started working which was every weekend I stopped doing demonstrations/exhibitions, nothing's changed today then!
  8. Lamp posts don't get a mention on the sightseeing tour, maybe they havn't evolved enough round here.
  9. Just down the road from me, one manufacturer to another.
  10. Before I started to build metal kits, I would bash and scratch build out of plastikard. Notable was building A2 Blue peter out of a Triang A3 and even adding the missing bits of valve gear. A GER Y6 tram onto a tenshodo motor bogie donated by a member of my old model railway club. My most impressive but only lasted 3 weeks as the wheels gave up on the chassis, LBSCR remembrance 4-6-4T out of a mainline LMS rebuilt patriot! It was a dead scale model as well.
  11. I would show the other 3 buses but they range from 1994 to 2001 so probably a bit out of the old range. 2 of them are unusual though and the first of their type to be preserved. Again it's down to what I was brought up with being born in December 1985
  12. RMC1490 was a Chelsham garage bus and used on the 403 before becoming a driver trainer and then X15 bus. Quite ironic that 3 of the 5 buses I have ran in Croydon, but none at the same time. The VC and RMC would have met in Bank in the late 80's and early 90's and both carrying Routemaster registration CLT plates at the time.
  13. This has been removed, the slogan for beaverbus in Leicester The bendibuses they had there said "bend it like a beaver" Probably be banned now on RM Web
  14. Hello everyone, thank you for those who have pre-paid for the 4mm scale 009 gauge De-Winton kit, it has been a huge help. I have now just paid for the motors so should get these very shortly. The patterns for the Lost Wax brass axle cranks and for the white metal body parts have been submitted the last few weeks so should see the completed model on the website this week provided the weather doesn't affect anything else. There will also be released 2 new whitemetal chimneys, Kerr Stuart Haig and Diana.
  15. Hopefully these photos will help that I took as part of the research of the pair of London Transport 60ft RW Rail Wagons.
  16. A photo of VC23 when new, Photo taken by Bill Young. Permission was given to use.
  17. This is the 2nd oldest bus in the fleet and restoration has stalled. A set of doors to reinstate the centre doors has been sourced and got to be collected. New to London Buses as VC23 for route 133, my old local route. New as registration G123NGN then 23CLT A northern counties palatine 1 bodied Volvo Citybus D10M mid engined bus making her 14'9" high. The only volvo city uses bought by London buses.
  18. Gwiwer, Do you remember if the X15 RMC's had sliding cab Windows as the buses magazine article on the Beckton Express says they did, RMC1490 sports the standard solid window.
  19. The Lynx comes in my top 3 fastest buses, the next was a Volvo B10BLE that was with Wardle Transport, I was warned. When I entered the A50 I opened her up, warp speed is a understatement. There was a reason it was normally allocated to the X50 From Stoke On Trent to Derby, it was the only bus that could keep to time. The other was a Volvo B10B new to Trent that I had and now sold into preservation.
  20. The Routemasters also have power assisted steering. This RMC is fully auto (built new as semi) if I wanted to but I always drive as a semi auto, especially as the diff has been changed back so starting in first gear is more important than before. These along with the Leyland Titan B15 and Olympian with Hydracyclic gearbox would start in 2nd gear, not first.
  21. The RMA's was capable of doing 70mph towing a trailer with BEA!
  22. Hello everyone, Thank you for the interest in RMC1490. She's been in the fleet since October, unfortunately though she's the reason I won't attending exhibitions with RT Models as most Saturdays are taken up on Weddings. I have a attached some more photos, especially the inside. Originally she had luggage racks running along the ceiling, a set of these is present should I wish to reinstate them. Note the difference in the staircase area, no cut away for the conductor like on RM's and RML's. For those interested in the mechanical side, she still has a 9.6 litre AEC AV590 engine, coil springs on the front and air bags on the rear. Her differential has been changed back in January back to a country diff as new rather than the standard city diff that was changed over in the late 1980's for her role on the X15. This means she can go a bit more faster now as most roads round my way are national speed limit. Other than the mechanical side, nothings been done to the bodywork by myself. For those interested, RMC1490 will be operating the Shrewsbury and Ironbridge sightseeing tour from May.
  23. Just come across this thread. My particular interest is in London buses from the mid 90's which all my vehicles are semi preserved and represent the buses of my youth before moving to Shropshire. The oldest bus in my fleet is RMC1490 on performing the all stns emergency rail replacement Shrewsbury to Caersws on Tuesday. A general view of the rear with correct blinds shown but didn't slot in "The Beckton Express" board in the side.
  24. Hi Tony, Whilst I don't do many shows, this year will be virtually be zero attendance for the first time since RT Models was on the exhibition circuit from 2010, shows vary for kit/detailing demand so to speak. I've been attending most of the 4mm scale specialist shows as that's where we tend to fit in best and compliment each other, even if we may not make much money we still support them. Unfortunately the larger shows can prove too costly to attend especially once you add the cost of diesel, hotel, food etc As you say Tony, maybe a sign of the times of kits? Certainly not dead is kit building but not as common as it used to be and all the articles I used to love reading about kit (including your articles) and scratch building is not very often these days and unfortunately is the main reason for me not buying magazines very often as well as lack of scale drawings as this would give me the inspiration to scratch build something, even if a kit might be available. Warley has been a good show for me now we have the small suppliers forum but this year I've had to stop attending, didn't help where I nearly fell asleep on the stand on the Saturday as I went and drove a emergency rail replacement bus service the night before when I should have been setting up. Thankfully I only had to walk across the road to the hotel and ordered room service. The below photo will mean my Saturday's will now be taken up driving the RMC on weddings mostly (with some Sentinel steam locos in view). I am being booked at some railway events with the RMC, even suggested having the stand on board! Mobile model shop!
  25. I need the figure to withstand going into a vulcanised mould plus the final item needs to be whitemetal to add weight to the loco as its only a bit bigger than my thumb!
