  1. No Phil it is not. noun noun: train; plural noun: trains 1. a series of connected railway carriages or wagons moved by a locomotive or by integral motors. "a freight train" 2. a number of vehicles or pack animals moving in a line. "a camel train" synonyms: procession, line, file, column, convoy, cavalcade, caravan, queue, rank, string, succession, progression, array "a train of elephants dragging logs"
  2. Is it just me or is anyone else troubled by the increasingly common use of the word train to describe an engine. John K
  3. Hi Mike I only clean wheels with isopropanol and cotton buds theses days. I don't like abrasives because they all generate dust which gets everywhere. Don't forget to clean the wheels of all your rolling stock, not just engines. Coaches and wagons are really good at dragging muck around the whole of a layout. Please ignore short and terse replies. Good manners are free. Best John K
  4. What you are asking about are Bus Snubbers or Bus Terminators It gets discussed here fairly often and people argue interminably about their usefulness, with many quoting theoretical electronics and others quoting empirical experience. I am agnostic on the subject. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/56688-dcc-bus-terminators/ John K
  5. Can you post a full screen grab so we can see what the programmers states are. John K
  6. Cheer Boys Cheer is on the DVD, Ealing Rarities Vol 9 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ealing-Studios-Rarities-Collection-DVD/dp/B00EZ5O6H4 John K
  7. Unless you are running old double motored Heljan stuff your NCE Power cab will do it perfectly. DCC systems are not sentient beings. They have no idea if the load attached is a 4mm model or a 7mm one. Do not waste your money buying a big new system (or even additional NCE power) that you wont need. John K
  8. Before contacting Anthony, I suggest that you physically disconnect J&K from the layout and try again. John K
  9. The choices were open wagons or walk! John K
  10. May I suggest that you download and install JMRI and set that up with your L1-USB and laptop. It is in use all round the world and has more functionality than you could ever need. http://jmri.sourceforge.net/ You can also get expert help from the JMRI user group at https://groups.io/g/jmriusers Best, John K
  11. Hi Tony I'd connect one side of the motor to FO(n), where n is the function number that you want to operate the fan, and the other side to the optional +5V output of the MX696. See the diagram on P4 of the manual where +5V is the 6th connector along on the top row. Best, John K
  12. My two pennorth. Just delete 'Discussion Topics' and leave the rest alone. John K
  13. These are they I think https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F301942513575 John K
  14. If you are lucky you may have just blown the speaker. Try a new cheap speaker before replacing the decoder - Oh and do turn the sound down before you do it. John K
  15. I think the problem is the Trade Description Act 1968
  16. It may be too late for you, but a bit of good general advice is to test any new decoder installation on the programming track before you put it on the layout and subject it to the full voltage of your DCC system. John K
  17. Hi Marc? Yes it will run on its own local network if you want, or it'll run as part of your domestic network. I take a manky old router around the shows with me so I can run LenzDCC to Lenz interface to laptop with JMRI to smartphones with Withrottle or Engine driver. You haven't told us which DCC system or interface you have bought - some seem to be more user friendly than others. Best John K
  18. Free advice for what it's worth I would be reluctant to bulk buy anything until I had seen a sample working. John K
  19. Hi Simon, You know that's not what I said. ATB John I think some of us are in a bit of a bubble where we see S7 and OMF over represemted
  20. Hi Art The previous 25 posts are all interesting, but the simple answer to your question is that the vast majority of O gauge modellers in the UK use 32mm gauge track in combination with wheelsets that conform to (or are close to) to the GOG Fine standard. The other standards (and not-so-standards) are of minority interest, and are the subject of more discussion than they are of actual modelling. John K
  21. Send them to me - they are brilliant. I have been using the DCC Concepts stay alives for a while now. If you want to use them with non-DCC concepts decoders as I do, you do need to wire them to Decoder positive (Blue) and ground (GND, which is not the same as Cap negative). Not everybody can do it because in some cases it involves soldering to the decoder PCB itself. So you need to be fast and accurate with a soldering iron. John K
  22. This subject comes up every few months. Yes you can do it. Is it a good idea? Probably not - there are very few 2mm scale models that you can't get a decoder into. John K
