  1. Good news. The Wood Green venue is now closed, but the show will go on. We have secured the 22,000sq ft Arena Sports at Kettering and the Show will be moving to the Summer The dates for 2019 are June 8/9th John K
  2. An ingenious plan if you like the smell of burning electronics. I agree with Nigel - it is theoretically feasible, but I suggest you will be safer to spend a tenner on an H&M Duette from eBay to run your DC stuff. John K
  3. Have you considered why someone night give away a DCC system for free John K
  4. Any moment now the argument about bus terminators is going to break out. John K
  5. Rest assured, your computer will do exactly what you told it to do... ...this is not necessarily the same as what you think you told it to do. John K
  6. These are the dog’s danglies of turntables. http://www.admturntables.com If you are building something like a loco shed layout they win hands down. Next I suggest you look here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/16799-rtr-turntables-for-00-whats-out-there/ Then come back and ask again if you still have questions. Best John K
  7. Any other clues? What scale/gauge? How long are the engines you want to turn? John K
  8. Some of the people I know are still mourning the end of clockwork. John K
  9. It's a lesson that we see being learnt over and over again in the DCC section - Cheap decoders are cheap for a reason. John K
  10. It's mainly plug'n'play but you will need to solder speaker wires. A phone call to Nicole and/or Jeremy at Digitrains is always helpful. Just a happy customer. John K
  11. Feel free to come and join this io group. https://groups.io/g/7mmrailwaymodelling Once you are there, there are no silly questions. Ask anything you like. John K
  12. 1 Avoid entry level train set manufacturer labelled systems like Bachmnas and Hornby - you will outgrow their lack of functionality very quickly. 2 Never mix DC and DCC, especially with clever changeover switches. It will inevitably end in tears. 3 Buy well and buy once. 4 I have used Lenz for 18 years but I suggest you look at NCE, Gaugemaster, Lenz and Digitrax. The current UK best seller is NCE Power Cab John K edited for typos
  13. There was a review in the Gazette which was overly critical of the kit. IMHO the review wasn't very helpful at all. An unedited pre-Gazette version of the review is available on the author's own website here: http://www.raymondwalley.com/loco/other/b17.html Do not let this review colour your view. I have built this kit and so have several people I know. It's a good kit (with pretty naff instructions for the loco). John K Edited for typos
  14. I have built the DMR B12 and you will not have the same problem. It is tightish but the clearances do work. John K
  15. The answer to the thread question is - Yes they do work. Blue smoke is usual an indicator of incorrect installation. John k
  16. CV267 on a Zimo decoder. Best adjusted with a running loco using POM. John K
  17. This is a special case. Doncaster is not in real Yorkshire. It is in The People's Republic of South Yorkshire. Best
  18. Will you communicate in German and I in Serbian? Probably not necessary. John
  19. I don't mind at all. It is the San Cheng one and despite the door it is a lovely little thing. It is fitted with a Zimo 645 sound decoder and runs like magic. John
  20. You do not need two controllers. I split the DCC output from my Lenz system through two NCE EB1 Circuit breakers. One for the track bus and one for the accessory bus. Set the jumpers to the protection level you need. Here they are mounted on a bit of plywood. DCC in on the left, buses out on the right. The breaker on the Accessory Bus is probably unnecessary but I like the security. John K Edited for typos
  21. BTW - This is Bankfield Road as photographed by Paul Bason for BRM Cheers, John K
  22. And I'll be there with our layout, Bankfield Road. John K

    Zimo MX645

You can map the FOs to be forward or reverse or both, and you can map them to any Fn button you want. You need section 3.17 of the manual which is misleadingly labelled Swiss mapping. Do not be put off by the word Swiss, this mapping method allows considerable flexibility over which function button drives which physical outputs. John K
  24. Hence the "why we stick to Lenz" thread running at the moment. John K
  25. Or failing all else read the manual.
