I've been up to Villiers Terrace, but I haven't seen any of them...

  3. Several different sources (internet and written) indicate they were in Unit 9, although they seem to have occupied other additional units at varying times in their history. Google street view appears to indicate the unit is now a fast food production operation
  4. Yep, when I was involved with the model trade, after Wrenn had re-gained their independence following the collapse of the Lines Bros empire, i remember sending orders and payments to a Bowlers Croft address. Appears to be confirmed by the rear of one of their catalogues.
  5. Interesting you could combine collecting your 'Superfront' with popping into GR Wrenn, who were also on Bowlers Croft for many years.

  9. I am sure the reasons for this are a private matter between the two parties involved. What hasn't been mentioned are the 'terms of trade' that are agreed between two companies when they agree to a contract. If either party feel these terms have been broken then either can pause or terminate the agreement which will have consequences for the end customer. Certainly when I was involved in the model retail trade some years ago, you placed your orders with the large manufacturers at the time models were announced (often at the beginning of the year or at the London Toy Fair), but there was no guarantee that you would get the quantity you ordered when the models were delivered. Additionally at that time a few suppliers had trade terms that contained clauses that were possibly illegal / immoral, such as requiring you to only sell their products at full retail price, a requirement which had been outlawed some years before. However if you were reported for breaking the terms (by other retailers), your supplies and trading contract would stop without warning. Trade relationships are invariably more complex than the retailer / modelling customer relationship. I am not taking sides in this discussion as I have had a number of pre-orders cancelled today. I simply worked the keyboard and pre-ordered the items spread across several other retailers.

  11. Yes, but they found that many members of the public didn't understand them (or didn't want to). They are of course used on motorways, where the operators (or the auto bot) controlling them seems to derive perverse pleasure from setting them to 40mph when there are no obvious traffic issues, although I suspect it does help raise speeding fine income.
  12. The decline in the last week appears to be as a result of the the schools closing at the end of the week prior to Easter. I expect the rates to start to rise next week, due to those who didn't keep to the rules during the Easter weekend working their way into the data and this will accelerate the following week due to the the easing of lockdown tomorrow and also schools returning after their Easter break.
  13. Willy Wombat or Willie Wombat?

    1. Sithlord75

      Sithlord75

Neither - no Aussie would be called Willie (cause that seems to be Scottish spelling) nor would one want to be called Willy (cause them's fighting words).  Maybe Will Wombat but if William, then almost always Bill or Billy is used Down Here.  A Wombat, no matter what their first name, would be known as Dozer or Combat.

  15. Unfortunately whilst this is correct whilst we are still in lockdown, the situation may well start to change once things open up. Additionally there is a considerable risk that a new variant could arise that can circumvent the protection given by the current vaccines. This variant could be home grown or more be probably brought into the country from elsewhere. Whilst it may be possible to revise the formula of the vaccinations to keep pace, there will inevitably be a development lag and also the timescale taken to re-vaccinate the most vulnerable. This may not be a problem if the variant emerges during the summer, but more of an issue if like the so called 'Kent' variant last year, it emerges in the autumn, leading into the winter.
  16. Excellent issue arrived today - to beat the 3 day Covid-19 mail quarantine appropriate PPE was worn!
  17. There is a school of thought that indicates the two key words in the title of that item are 'EU Clot' - but of course that it is only one opinion
  18. Really looking forward to receiving my subs copy. I'm so keen that it may bypass our COVID-19 three day post isolation period, so I will probably read it wearing selected PPE!

Yes, but in this instance it is a shelf, rather than a table. It is to be used for a USA N scale micro as a diversion from my ongoing 4mm Kingfisher Wharf.

  20. Not sure, but I know I did some work for them in 1995, shortly after they had acquired MAP and were moving all it's assets etc. from Hemel Hempstead to somewhere south of London, unfortunately I can't remember where. Model Railways had already ceased publication by then although I think Model Engineer and Aero Modeller, were still in print. They appeared to be looking closely at rationalising other former MAP publications.

cos you spend too much time looking at 'models'....that's why I couldn't look at RMWeb at work as the wrong sort of 'models' kept appearing in the ads.

  24. Popped the moulded 'coal' out of my NCB version ready to install some of the real stuff and noted that with the moulded coal removed it is possible to close up both the vertical bunker seams. Should be further disguised by a healthly dose of NCB weathering!
