  1. That is my thoughts and ties in with them being at the Statfold Model Railway Exhibition Roy
  2. Definitely not a new tooling 47 as the cab front footsteps are in the right place. Roy
  3. Fore and aft does not allow for changes in gradient on a curve if you have camber for example. You don’t need a lot of movement, but gravity is your friend as locos tend to sit at their lowest natural point. Pick a real 47 up by its body and see how much movement there is in relation to the bogies. Roy
  4. There needs to be some movement to stop derailments or loss of traction, especially on a change of gradient. To my mind there is a big difference between there being movement, and the loco chassis sitting evenly and at the right height on the bogies. Roy
  5. Having re-done the roof on a Class 205 DEMU, they go the other way, start black and weather to grey. Roy
  6. Ah, but is your spirit level calibrated ;-) As an apprentice many years ago I was used to the wind-ups such as being sent to the stores for “a long weight”. When I got sent to Test and Calibration to “get the spirit level calibrated” I refused assuming another wind-up. Turned out it was a thing. Never can see a spirit level without remembering! Roy
  7. My Amazon pre-order is still in place at the moment. Roy
  8. I thought it was more than a tick-box. Don’t you have to remove any mention of F1 from the logic for whatever key the spirax valves are on? Roy
  9. Have you looked to see if there is a MakerSpace (or something like it) near you: https://www.idig3dprinting.co.uk/news/3d-printing-news/list-uk-makerspaces/ Roy
  10. That will make the crew involved feel better - not. Possibly the result of a SPAD, that is not a minor thing. Roy
  11. Fully agree, but as I have said before, if we are looking at a new 0-4-2, a GWR 517 would be great. Roy
  12. Have you looked at the cost of the Heljan alternative? When comparing as close as you can like-for-like, Bachmann are charging less aren’t they? Heljan sound £389.95 v Bachmann Sound £339.95 or SFX £384.95 (all rrp). Roy
  13. Problem is that they will just duplicate serial numbers of legitimate stock as has happened in other industries. That said, I agree with the need for warranty etc. Roy
  14. As you say Mark, it is up to us whether we buy or not, and I for one did not need an electron microscope to know the 45 was not for me, so I am unsure why you see the need for the dig? Enjoy your 47s as, as you say, your opinion is all that matters to you. Roy
  15. But Heljan can, and have, produced some cracking models, and that is my frustration, you never know what you will get. Class 11 a cracking model, PWM not so… Roy
  16. 73.6% of all statistics are made up. Honest… Google it. 100% on RMWeb? Roy
  17. if you like it, fair enough, but there is more wrong than just the front. Those horrendous “in-fills”’on the cab corners that make it look like it has tiny wings. Bachmann got slated for their Class 37 nose-seams, which are nothing when compared to those in-fills. Roy
  18. Glad that is all they are as there are so many errors and inaccuracies as to make them laughable. Just hoping they all get fixed. Roy
  19. I nearly purchased some of these so many times and never did. Rainbow Railways’ Easter sale finally made me do it and they arrived today, really well packed (thank you). They are superb as others have said and I may have to get a couple more. If you have thought about buying some and haven’t yet, go ahead, you won’t be disappointed. Roy
  20. Far from anecdotal, look at the way it sold out (fact) but, at the same time, was hated by many, me included. Roy
  21. This one shows 50023 looking pretty much ex-works and it looks like black to me (Flickr link): Not my photo. Roy
  22. Phil has self funded this and it may well be that he recognises the need to improve, but needs the income from the 25s to fund those improvements. Given the moaning on here about crowdfunding and huge deposits, perhaps he should be given some credit instead? He will get this right I am sure, just give him some time and patience. As an aside, finally succumbed and ordered the 25/9 pair yesterday taking my order total to eight 25s. Roy
