Thanks Mikkel, I used about 5-6 layers, hadn't considered using less so could give that a go.

Ahh so even more of a real life link than I thought! I like those little fact nuggets.
I had a look and found this mention of 'The Flying Skipper' as well.
Some of the trains running through Upton bore poetic names such as “The Farmer’s Boy” (from Bristol), the “Northern Flash” (from Paddington), “The Flying Skipper” & “The Northern Docker” (both from Wolverhampton) and “The Cambrian Pioneer” (to Oswestry)

Thanks mate!

Cheers Sylvian! I do hope to build a Henry I as well, but I agree the Green 5 is superior.

I've altered the timetables after some discussion - it was pointed out that there wasn't really a morning commuter service for people travelling on the main line and going to Tidmouth. So, using Cronk as the 'middle' station, I've added two services which start there and work in either direction.
One of these (Train MI) needs to be hauled by a class 5 or above loco, as when it gets to Tidmouth it becomes an express rake and forms the 'Wild Nor'Wester' in the afternoon.
Meanwhile the other set (Train MH) fills in the gap that was in the middle of the day, although it does have a tight turnaround at Carnforth.

Thank you

Thanks on both counts Mikkel, I got the idea for the blog index from Ullypug of this parish
Class references are for power classification on locos. The NWR number system is a 3 digit one, the first digit is the power class. So No.301 Thomas Allen is power class 3, loco number 01. Likewise Suddery Cathedral is power class 8, loco number 05.
Looks very good. But isn't that quite an intensive service on the Ffarquhar branch, and can it be justified?
Yes I was wrestling with that one for a while and tried to get my head around what was needed. If we take the necessary trains, the quarry workers have to get to work and home (Train set A), people in Elsbridge need to get to work in Tidmouth etc. and home, or to Ffarquhar/Ulfstead in the other direction. Finally the connecting service with the Wild Nor'Wester must go to Tidmouth in the afternoon.
The railcar and main loco are both shedded at Ffarquhar so must start from there and return at the end of the day.
If I were to lose one, I think it would be the final FB service of the day (and the final FC working to Ffarquhar could leave later in the evening), but that would mean that anyone returning to Knapford at the end of the day would need to go on the quarry workers' train.
Then again, I could strengthen that train to a 4 wheel and a bogie coach... Yes perhaps that's the solution? Quarrymen in the 4 wheeler and the public in the bogie coach, with the local eccentric propping up the bar inside!

I like that E2 0-6-2T! It reminds me of a hybrid between the E2 and the E4!
Thanks!

Looks great, I'd not realised the full size of the layout before!
-
Looks the part, certainly. I've been wanting to experiment with decal paper for a while, am I correct in thinking you can't print white? May I ask what kind of printer you are using Dave?

It looks so great. The disc wheels are spot-on, too.

Looks fantastic.

Really interesting. If you've ever read Paul Jarman's blog on Beamish Transport, he has a similar theme in that during the 1960s-1990s the museum essentially used up all the remaining life in its working exhibits, and now they are all coming to the 'heavy rebuild' stage.

Hello Andrew,
It was great to see you, Clevedon and Weston at the show last weekend. I was looking forward to seeing them together and not disappointed! I'll put some pics up in the exhibition thread.
No.5 is looking great.
Cheers

It's delightful!

Skarloey and Rheneas are based on Talyllyn and Dolgoch, so it's reasonable to try the idea that they are Sudrian equivalents of the Welsh names. Since Talyllyn apparently means 'end of the lake lake' and Sudrian 'loey' is identified with 'loch'. the element 'skar' might be somehow related to 'end'. However, 'Dolgoch' means 'red meadow' so seems unrelated to 'Rheneas'.
Thankfully the Reverend Awdry provided a rough translation as 'Lake in the woods' and 'Divided waterfall' (which is almost the ramse as the Manx and Gaelic) respectively.

Oh yes! Or maybe even 21 seasons on TV!

The disc wheels were such a prominent feature of the prototype, it's good that you are taking the time to replicate them properly.
Really looking forward to seeing it strutting its stuff on Weston and Clevedon.
Coincidentally I was mucking about with a spreadsheet on WC&PR locos earlier today. I'd always thought of it as having a huge loco stud as I was used to looking at the long stock list, but once I'd plotted the dates in use I found it usually only had 4 steam locos in use at any time (with a maximum of 6). It was also interesting to see how long the big Manning Wardles 3 and 5 stuck it out for compared to other locos. Then again, one wonders if Hesperus might have survived to the end if it hadn't broken the bridge...

All quiet from Farthing recently, how are things going?
-
Looking forward to coming to the Portishead show and seeing this along with Clevedon

Sorry about this Gavin. What I do remember was that you once got frustrated with a whitemetal kit for an E2, and it ended up in the bin. Fast forward and you ended up producing the most detailed and accurate kit for an E2 there has ever been, in multiple versions and scales.
You have the skill and ability to overcome.

Looks great and perfect traction for the Tweedale and District Railway and Omnibus Company Limited.
-
Hurrah! The Tweedale empire expands!
Will you be using proprietary track or building your own?

Phew! That's the first post salvaged from the photobucket debacle....

It's a familiar story James! I seem to accumulate them faster than I finish them! Are you going to be tempted by Bachmann's new 'Mons'?
