  1. A few years ago practical classics had an item about E series marina's asking if anyone had had a 2600 one and survived due to the dubious handling!
  2. Why do none of the present day liveries look anywhere near as go as the original ones. Note to high paid livery creators loco's and units do not have lots of curves!
  3. If it doesn't damage the pan or the overheads that's ok
  4. I wonder who will be the first to run an 88 off the wires thinking they were they were in a 68 ,other than the panel to the right the controls are identical
  5. Ford transit engines strapped underneath them ....!
  6. If it's a hand point you can trail through it. I can't see a signal for exiting the sidings which is more worrying!
  7. Looks well Nidge, the old ones also look good my mate has some of those in 12in to go on a 1300gt he's restoring
  8. I'm surprised they haven't thought of relaying in 2ft gauge to link with the Bala lake or did I read somewhere they would like to join the Llangollen railway?
  9. I did but actually got less than I lost in pay. The company I worked for then told me not to rock the boat as they had big contracts with network rail!
  10. The later rover metro autos were slightly later than the manual cars and the mk2 auto carried on slightly longer albeit with some rover features such as revised door mirrors
  11. Mk2S now there's a nice car. I like minis a lot but not keen on what some people do to them, especially putting metro turbo engines in them. If I won the lottery I'd love to buy a mini ERA but tell the owner I was just buying it for a spare engine for my metro!
  12. Love those mk1s Nidge, is one yours? Rear wiper on the stored one is something you don't see often nowadays, can be done by cutting the standard wiper rack in two or more neatly by using a rear one from an allegro estate
  13. I know what you are saying Phil, the thing that annoys me with network rail is their double standards. If things aren't right for them then things don't happen, if you aren't wearing the correct PPE you don't get access. But no one can tell them to pick the crap up. I take delight in pointing out rubbish on the lineside and other defects to senior managers when driving the saloon but frighteningly some of those don't understand what you are on about sometimes. My first question to them is always'are you ex BR?' if the answer is no respect starts at zero and can go either way from there!
  14. The irony of this is that the coach fitted with the tube chassis was unusable due to terrible ride quality! Which with a chassis designed for a freight vehicles could have been expected. CCT chassis are often used for such conversations but they are a passenger rated vehicle
  15. Without wanting to offend people I won't mention the actual ones but I know of a pipe and a tube that were used in the last ten years for their chassis for a coach and a van. While this does make the vehicles moveable they are no way representative of how the vehicles originally were. I would rather see the vehicles in a freight train representation
  16. Were they arranged it their latter years with a 123 car on one end and a 124 on the other to create sort of half sets so if a six car was formed hopefully the 123s would be in the middle
  17. What scale is that excellent class 60 that is being built to this gauge. There has been a few pictures of this loco in various magazines and some are hard to distinguish from a full sized one
  18. Unfortunately with both these types with the exception of the GCR ones they come up against the preservation train set mentality, if they didn't have GWR or the like on them a lot of preserved railways aren't interested and the port MGR has no chance as history stops in 1968 on a lot of railways. Good BR standard wagons are still seen as disposable on some railways which use the chassis's for stupid recreation projects of useless wagon types
  19. I'm sure I've read somewhere that these were single cabbed English Electric powered loco's using the 16 CVT engine, if they were LNER styled it would be logical that the EM1/2 cabs would be used
  20. The blue square jumpers were to be behind a panel in the valence. We didn't have many details on rubber panels. Not sure if all the 79xxx had them. The unit is currently in green with mid level stripes with four lamps on each end but is stored for reasons I forget
  21. It had the high level heating intake removed and original interior lights fitted Also note no red bulbs!
  22. The blue 101 was about 03 ish, that was my project hence no headlamp and gutters removed. The original intention was to make this unit look like a 79xxx something which fell by the wayside when I left. However talking to the new c&w man it may be on the cards again. Front valance and dummy high level jumpers sockets
  23. There weren't actually that many DMUs fitted with headlights but some railways have fitted them . Loco's aren't exempt either. Several 25s have them ,yet none were fitted by BR.
