    I see preservation's obsession with headlights on green DMUs raises it's ugly head again. I bet it has red bulb tail lamps too!

    One source that hasn't been mentioned on here is triang arkitex . For those that don't know it's a construction kit that basically makes 60s era tower blocks etc. It can be glued and modified to make excellent city buildings

    Morning BenThe lamp units themselves are different, as the nigh unit is designed not to dazzle oncoming trains where the day unit is more akin to a car headlamp being on main beam. Both units have standard halogen 55w bulbs but the shading over the bulbs are different The day setting is to make trains more visible to track workers

    Notice the stupid headboard requires the night headlight to be used during the day. Would be an interesting one at an enquiry if God forbid it killed someone on the track. ' why was the night headlight being used instead of the serviceable day headlight?....'

    There has been a recent spate where the bridges won't close due to heat and trains being turned back. I didn't realise that apparently this time of year the bridges are opened to river traffic after the passage of all trains. A classic comment from a mate of mine who is a driver. When I told him this he said. ' well I've never seen one open!' Just as well or you would be quite wet!

    Just looking at your last picture Jim How can that clown who wrote an article about liveries he's designed in railway mag the other month think that HST looks good? What a dog's breakfast of a livery compared to the BR ones especially the original

    It's odd in the picture near the rushcutters that the water level must have risen as both rail bridges are the same height but the boat managed to get in the loop from the new river cut. When boats hit this bridge rail traffic is suspended until the bridge is examined

    Old picture there Ernie, the loop has reappeared since that was taken. It's for stone trains to run round and propel onto the marsh for loading

    Hard to believe the class 45 in the picture is fully restored to working order and it's quite possible that some of the 37s outside the shed are still working for DRS Shame about the fate of the depot though

    A few years ago it seemed like Soham and the Ely loops were going to happen then it was all postponed. I agree that it is vitally important to safeguard freight paths especially if Sizewell gets the go-ahead

    No these weren't actually fitted with multiple working equipment, not sure if the continental versions had it. The BR ones were designed to pull a trailer but none were ever built

    Did HSTs have jumper sockets behind the front drawbar cover?

    It may have had MU most pictures you see of APT power cars being tested with HSTs have only one power car so I've possibly wrongly assumed that the wiring from the APT was connected to the HST for running the APT. As I don't know what this consisted of it may be that both HST cars could power up together

    Thats a superb photo. With those numbers that's two D(E)MU vehicles in a train that has loco hauled stock plus an EMU vehicle. I take it this was in top and tail mode as I doubt the train was through wired for multiple unit operation of the two power cars
