  1. And a different bloke in the driver's seat!
  2. I'm sorry but I just don't agree with the way those 50s are operated on the mainline, I'm surprised colas tolerate it
  3. The problem with the NRM is there doesn't seem to be any consistency with their standards. At one point they didn't want Oliver Cromwell painting, become the paint that was on was done by BR. They didn't want D200,when it was restored they did! The prototype mk2 was left to rot until the mid Norfolk took it, yet their core collection of coaching stock is mainly one off special vehicles that are not representative of the stock on the railways of the UK at any given time. Basically if you were from another country and knew nothing about railways you'd think that in the past we all rode about in total oppulance pulled by highly polished brass and copper destined locomotives until 1968 when....... Well they don't really say what we did
  4. I bet you didn't get in the seat on the 50!
  5. Two great sets again Dave. Has the carnforth coaling tower ever worked in preservation? I know that it's now threatened with demolition which is a real shame
  6. Incidentally APT-E is just as important historically as flying Scotsman as as the A1 was first to exceed 100mph APT-E was the first to exceed 150mph in Britain
  7. This where the NRM is all wrong, cutting through those cables because it would take too long to do it properly is like cutting through flying Scotsman's firebox to uncouple it from its tender! No wonder people get the arse with them
  8. That picture also shows two airbrakes opens using their vacuum through pipes. They would later become OAB
  9. That film was superb, brought back lots of happy memories as l used to work into Tinsley a lot during that period. I even remember the white manta GTE that appears in one of the shots!
  10. Oops, sorry haven't kept up with this today .been working in the garden sorry!
  11. Not strictly wild, this is Horace our latest rescued hedgehog. He was found last year when only a few months old and he was literally starving. He was taken in to a rescue centre and fed. He hibernated and woke up about four weeks ago. However he has servers vision problems being extremely long sited. He can see us from a few feet but can only find food by smell close up. In the wild he'd have been useless at hunting prey hence him going hungry last year. So he's here to stay and already knows his name and is very friendly and nosey! Oh and he seems to love watching black and white old films from channel 343 while spralled out on the sofa!
  12. Look East have just reported that the signalman at Cambridge gave permission for the tractor to cross
  13. Excellent again Dave, love the atmosphere. What's the strange point in the last one? Can't really work it out, could be a clipped out catch point but I'm not sure Just noticed the rodding connection on the left
  14. Not that clear but this was a bank vole in the garden yesterday. The other picture is a wood mouse last year that became quite tame.
  15. I always thought the contract for sleeper haulage required new locomotives
  16. The railroad one has no skirts or centre strip on the front Pete
  17. It was done once to test the ride of mk4s at speed north of York. Must have been about 89
  18. Sorry to go off topic Pete, excellent pictures of Yarmouth. The NYMR wanted a 31/0 but BR wouldn't sell as the ETH project was in full swing. What a shame at least another didn't get preserved as they still have doors and skirts etc
  19. The ETH cables can be seen but the steam pipes have been removed. The one on the left has also lost it's vacuum pipe some could only be moved as an unfitted vehicle
  20. Just spoken to a friend who started at Norwich in 80 and says that definitely the 31s were ETH, they were used along side 15s at Norwich and Yarmouth when the ETH coaching stock came to the area. The picture of it leaving would have been after crown point opened which has ETH shore supply. He says there was a button in the cab to switch the ETH on which when pressed made the engine run at almost full revs.
  21. Excellent picture, what was the point of a steam heat loco especially since Norwich had a load of boiler vans
  22. As someone who has cancer, though at present it's not visible, I have spoken to my oncologist who is a leading light in his field ,writing text books that are used the world over. He says they will never find a cure for it as every single one is different. But as said above survival rates do improve which is down to new techniques in radiotherapy and chemotherapy. He also says that while lifestyle is an important factor luck of the draw is an even greater factor in getting the thing.
  23. I like that, wasn't going to do lights. Where did you get them Pete?
  24. I thought the 31/0 train heat units were ETH the same as the 15s They weren't like ETHELs as they were purely for pre heating in sidings. There was at least one 31 at Yarmouth. Not sure what was removed from them but they were static
