  1. Building tower blocks must have been what toy designers thought kids wanted to do back then. I had a set of clip together buildings, they weren't really scale models and were quite small, and as you say not much to build really
  2. It's a great system shame it never really caught on. I would suspect the moulds were probably destroyed as I don't think the factory exists anymore. The box proudly proclaiming made in northern Ireland. I suppose the larger scale 1:42 scale would work with O scale. What was the purpose of those kits were the spot on diecast cars that scale?
  3. I'll probably hang on to it and look for odd bits as I don't need all the bits. There is some pictures on the net where people have made it into permanent models and detailed them. They look very good
  4. Without giving the exact details I can tell you from a comfort point of view the English Electric CO bogie rides ok at 120 mph! Was 30 years ago
  5. I've just acquired what appears to be a complete set B, the one that makes OO scale office blocks. My intention was to build a permanent 1960s BR office block in low relief. I was going to stick the units together permanently and paint where required. My dilemma is that this kit appears to be complete, box is very good but warn on the corners, all the internal boxes are present as is the instructions. I'm not sure how rare or valuable it is but would like some idea before proceeding.
  6. It seams hard to imagine now that there was still local freight workings to Whitby to what seems comparatively recently. The Whitby pick up ended 82/83 and Brotton/Carlin How 84.
  7. Remember it's not really virgin, stagecoach are the majority shareholder . If Souter takes on the unions he'll be upgrading his knighthood for a peerage
  8. Once it's gone over to EMU operation the whole thing will loose any bits of quality it has, those units do not give the impression of a quality railway. They remind me of the proposal back in BR days to make 455s or something look like bullet trains for the aborted theme park at Battersea power station, even down to sliding doors! Hardly the thing to follow in the footsteps of LNER Pacific's and deltics
  9. When you have 601 play the find British Steel blue paint! If you look in the foot steps you can find it from its glory days as 37501
  10. In the days before driver only operations it was possible to put the reverser in engine only or neutral and take your foot of the DSD. I hope the driver wasn't taking a leak or you could have had a soaking Dave! Loco's and units have to be fitted with a sensor that detects they are moving and dumps the brake if not in forward or reverse ( SSF) for driver only operation
  11. They are nowadays, that picture was probably taken when Cambridge was the limit of electrification
  12. Your right just enlarged it,it is a hornet. Rare mk1 though ,sliding windows and external door hinges
  13. Those photos are so period. Mk1 Riley elf,1100 and HB viva. Can you upload me into your photo collection,i want to live back in that period!!!
  14. Looks like the 47 is propelling the unit to the depot
  15. Found one. How awesome must be a pig to keep on the wires,at least trolleybuses had a bit more give and take https://www.hitachicm.com/global/environment-csr/environmentally-friendly-products/electric-construction-machinery/
  16. How do they get a return with rubber tyres or are the two pans on separate wires?
  17. I wouldn't be surprised if the driver was replatforming the unit and being a bit lazy especially if he wasn't passing the box. Or it's been left on by accident from a depot and no signalman has seen it!
  18. Ive heard that wrong routing did occur at times always resulting in a massive mess as it also would involve a dewirement . Flash bang wollop what a picture!
  19. A lot depends on your frame of mind Phil, to be honest I didn't want to know much about it, I never asked it into my body. Macmillan does a great job and say sent a chap who had had the same to see me. A really genuine nice chap. But I found this made me more upset. I prefer to take each day as it comes and did throughout my therapy, some fellow patients knew all the ins and outs of their disease I just bumbled along
  20. Hi Mal, I was diagnosed with cancer in the tongue and neck last year I had three sessions of five day chemotherapy then seven weeks of daily radiotherapy which finished in September, I'm only now stating to get energy back ,but just take it easy. You may find like me that in a few months your memory of your treatment will become quite vague. It's really strange but it happens alot apparently. Just try to keep your spirits up and best of luck mate Cheers Russ
  21. Thats very interesting Dave. It looks like the up goods ID used less then than it is now at Brentingby. The two stumps in the ten foot are reminders of MR small engine policy, two water columns for double heading
  22. Have you seen this Pete http://www.modelux-models.co.uk/#!laing-home/cp3b
  23. 667 doesn't have a lighting fuse there is a twin MCB under the BIS I had a problem a few years back with 038 that has fuses but somehow the lighting circuit is wired into the multi working! You can get partial lighting with the switch out providing the BIS is in on the other loco... Weird, that's why you don't see it in multiple much. I think they are going to sort it but we often have it at Norwich for stock moves
