  1. On Rollers whole of Ireland v France. Tried out on layout. Runs very well through points but then stops for no reason whereas the Peckitt sails through. Tested with meter and no dead spots or voltage drops, cleaned rail and wheels. How does it pick up?
  2. Sadly mine seems to fall into the not running smoothly group. Another session on the rollers beckons
  3. Lovely Model but a bit disappointed that indifferent running over PECO 75 medium points forming a crossover The real versions were apparently built to cope with indifferent track. Peckitt loco runs through no problem
  4. Surely you have a club bank account? Once we had proved evidence of a structure of the club, minutes of meetings etc then we nominated a person, in our case Deputy Exhibition Manager is registered with sum up. Our issue at the moment is the service we are receiving from Virgin Money. We are seriously thinking of moving the account but given York Expo experiences are going to give ourselves year to sort out.
  5. Bought 2 sum ups and very successful, in fact too successful! By day 1 of the show exceeded the limit for normal trading and machines shut down. Had to provide more detailed evidence that we were bona fida Club and then no problems. Having card readers really helped on secondhand stall . On the ticket desk was 60% cash 40% card before we were shut down. Moral is sort out all details before the show!
  6. The smell from the two lower wagons must have been something
  7. Refitted the scenic break to the fiddle yard. At least the wills stone sheet made it easier to re join the broken pieces and hide the joins.
  8. Last of the repairs to the damaged wagons completed. Wrong replacement buffers but all I had in the spares box left. next patch painting new bits and a few sessions completing numbers etc where ever possible.
  9. 15 wagons checked over, rebuffered, brake gear repaired, axleboxes added, couplings in place after the two crashes of 22. brought home how many still needed to numbers and tares added
  10. Yeap too chunky to get into the cab so gone with a thinner version, Roadscenes lorry driver?
  11. Santa has indeed come and a selection of figures were found. a guard who will end up watching the world go by as the train departs, railway worker with a posable arm holding a very festive oil can, perhaps on his way to panto a rather rotund driver who may have to watch the mince pies over the the Xmas period. Wife said she thought it reminded her of me when she looking at the website!
  12. Progress has been slower than hoped since the last post. Preparation for the first club show for 3 years took priority. The show was successful and agreement made that the 60 th show will take place over the weekend of 30th September 1st October. The club committee met earlier this month and agreed that the team could have space in the clubs to erect the whole 24ft of the layout and that it has approval and budget for a further 12 months. it will not be ready for September but the aim is to have a display of progress and perhaps space permitting perhaps a couple of boards at the show in September. Meanwhile work on stock continues. The scrapyard wagons from Troutons have now been located to the solid refuse waste ash that is left after burning in the recycled fuel power stations. This is collected and having no commercial use if sent to land fill. Due to the high amounts of carbon black in the ash wagons do get very dirty. Balsa wood loads with magnets buried in the wood have been fitted. The unloading siding is an arm stretch away from the operator position and a magnet wand has been constructed to remove the loads. wagons need data panels a clearing and brake wheels painted off white.
  13. Peckitt in action this morning. To the right will be the scenic break of the the road bridge and retaining walls. Still in need of some repair. a crew for the loco was on the Xmas list. Not long to go to see if they made it.
  14. Although the pop ups are a pain then the value of RMweb showed up today as a new thread of carrying tinplate for can and box manufacture. one of the off scene industries is a metal box company that changed over from war work. It seems I will need to acquire a couple more shock vans and wagons to carry this traffic.
  15. To produce a more random pattern of traffic I use two dice. One with red and blue dots replacing the numbers, the other a normal numbered die. Not a new idea but keeps a simple layout fresh. To determine if next move is inwards or outwards colour die rolled. RED = Inwards BLUE = Outwards. Number die determines number of wagons in the move. Number die rolled the number of times to indicate the type of wagon, all represent wagons that support the off scene industries. 1 = 16 ton coal wagon loaded if inwards empty otherwise 2 = 12 ton open wagon Red = loaded Blue = empty 3 = Hopper 4 = Steel Wagon Red = loaded Blue = empty 5 = Van 6 = Special wagon of Choice. Another throw of the number indicates how many wagons outward end up in the storage sidings. This means although a maximum of 6 wagons an be moved at any one time there is plenty of shunting around in each move. Class 25 brings in and takes out wagons. Class 08 or industrial loco does the shunting.
  16. Not a lot of progress this year on the layout not because I did not do anything though I did find working on the garage layout in the hot summer more comfortable than the house but because of two major incidents. Firstly have taken on grand dad duties looking after grandson 2 days a week whilst daughter returned to work. Issac only 2 but very interested in trains so does like going up into grand dads railway room. Normally fine but one day granddad looked away at the wrong time and Issac over balanced and crash down he came clutching the fiddle yard. This broke out the screws that held it to the shelf support and track and fiddle yard with wagons and loco in a pile in a heap. Thankfully Issac not hurt but lots is damage to the tracks and wiring plus wagons written off. then second incident, shelf that was put up 26 years a go for no reason that can be determined collapsed onto the rebuilt fiddle yard and stock resulting the write off three locos and smashed wagons! Have spent time repairing as many wagons and locos as possible and re doing the fiddle yard for a third time! For the past few days have been able to run trains again and have spent a Happy Hour running and shunting trains determined by the use of dice to determine type of wagon, in or out of yard trains and number of wagons in each train. today managed to get the Peckitt steam loco working again and so have doubled the industrial locos available.
  17. Local council, has an excellent free service of hosting and advertising for free on their website events. Found it a good way of getting the show advertised locally. For the press need a story so they will do an article. Hoping the 60 th show will be the hook in 2023.
  18. until
WRMS will be holding their 60th Model Railway Exhibition Saturday 30th 10 to 17.00 and Sunday 1st October 10 to 16.30 at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Northgate, Wakefield
  19. Running an exhibition after a three year layoff due to covid etc has shown that tip front costs have increased and keeping prices at same level is proving to be difficult.
  20. Wakefield 2022 has been and gone on a new date and in a new venue. Very pleased to have welcomed over 1000 visitors to the show and to see so many families in the Hall. After an absence of 3 years will take that. It is always a pleasure to see the delight on a child‘s face when they spot a train appearing. Thanks to all the operators who took the time to make their visit special. Thank you to the Lay-out teams, traders, catering and school staff and of course club members who without all your support a show would never run.
