  4. Exhibition Briefing completed on Monday. Menu from our new catering team looks very nice. Continuing with the the theme of debuts then WRMS 1/48th scale Prime Cereals is next up. Based in the 1970s in a breakfast cereal factory, featuring some novel electronics and home made track.
  5. There are a number of layouts making their exhibition debut at the show. First up is British Oak from the shed that has many a layout constructed in it from Roger Nichols. The layout is Based upon the coal disposal point at Caldergrove Wakefield and set in the green livery days of BR. OO scale and DC controlled.
  6. Reminder that the 2022 Exhibition is on a new date and a new venue. October 8th and 9th at the Queen Elizabeth Grammar School Northgate Wakefield. Saturday 10 till 5 and Sunday 10 to 4.30 adults £8 Two children admitted free with every paying adult. More details visit www.wakefield.org
  7. The normal venue for the exhibition was hit by an arson attack pre covid and was due for refurbishment. It was made plain by the management that Model Railway shows were not seen as being something that the centre would support once modernisation was undertaken. After an exhaustive search that involved Contacting just about every place we could think of that could hold a show QEGS was the viable option. The old market hall in Wakefield is being refurbished and not available until Jan 2024 and the Tileyard North near The Hepworth Wakefield will not be finished until the end of October at the earliest. The date was determined by the school. It has not been an easy task to put on a show post covid, reduced number of venues, increased hire costs and conditions, with traders going on line or retiring. Finding a catering company to provide a service proved to be very difficult with lack of staff being the main stumbling point for companies interested. We have had to take formal courses on risk assessment and first aid to fulfil the requirements of the venue. All whilst working within a very tight budget with an ever more distant break ever point stretching away into the distance. The number of shows in the north has been very limited with a number of well known shows not happening so be pleased that there are two shows to go to. Both will provide excellent value for money and an opportunity to view layouts in the flesh and not just on zoom and support the trade. Bit of a rant over but it’s been a long day typing up show guide, double checking dimensions and all the other bits that make up planning in the run up to the show. Please support your local shows as well as the big commercial shows. These clubs have had to weather the covid years paying for utilities and premises with little source of income and decreased numbers of members. For a full list of layouts and traders visit www.wakefieldrms.org
  8. Thanks for the enquiry. Yes, to reduce costs to the club then it was decided to use the old Troutons boards. They did not give up their track easily and we had to take off the baseboard tops and turn them over. This involved cutting off a hell of pins that had been used to secure the tops. All baseboards have now been prepared except the two end boards which need modifying, one to take thecsea cliff scene and the other the waste rubbish disposal site. Track plan confirmed after testing out all the moves we want to make. Additional stock purchased eg Azuma. Class 68. 3d printed domestic waste containers. All track purchased.
  9. finding suitable venues is not easy especially as the cost,of hire has increased. Catering is a nightmare area, staffing and facilities that can be used being problem areas.
  10. The 2022 Exhibition will take Place over the weekend of October 8 th and 9 th October. Venue Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Northgate, Wakefield. Saturday 10 am to 5 pm. Sunday 10 am to 4.30 pm. Adults £8 Children free. ( max of 2 children per fee paying adult )
  11. Found finding a suitable venue an issue as costs have risen steeply. A number of key traders have gone on line and will have to look at the business case very carefully to ensure that any event does at least break even. Club exhibitions are important, especially the middle range size events as they are big enough to bring in layouts from a distance. Without this size then a lot of Club exhibition layouts are going to sit gathering dust in clubrooms.
  12. Just finished writing a short story called the Colliery Shunter based on this colliery. Mam was nanny to the kids of the last colliery Manager there who lived at Brierley Hall.
  13. Thank you for assistance. It ran so well on DC. Had shied away from small steam locos in the past but good price at the Doncaster Show and a new industrial shunting shelf thought would give it a go.
  14. Hi, bought a B2 and the recommended Hornby 6 pin chip. The insulation tape made it difficult to see the socket but inserted pins into the socket. With the blue paint mark on the chip upper most. Placed on track but no movement and within few seconds smoke from the chip socket and when taken off track chip hot. The Loco had been run in on DC on rolling road and ran very sweetly. realise chip more than likely dead but any tips on it not happening again?
  15. With the clubrooms fully open once more then today will see the start of the tear down of Troutons and the salvaging of as many parts as possible. It was hoped to give it a last hurrah but it’s not be be. Thank you to all followed the thread and to those who have seen it at exhibitions. As a Team we have enjoyed building it and running the layout. Thank to the exhibition managers who booked it. Bardun is the name of the new layout which will be built to replace Troutons and although we have had to make changes to the original plans in order to try and future proof it for the years ahead we think it will give opportunity for mainline running with lots of other movements to keep viewers entertained.
  16. Thee were two, one selling lights looking as if robbed off a Dalek and the craft lights in a corner. It was a very flat light and found ended up with a headache by the end of the day.
  17. yes a lovely layout, from end to end the same quality and attention to detail. Look forward to seeing it again
  18. Very sad it could not have happened this year. Hope all issues can be resolved.
  19. The roof fans were 3D printed by a fellow member Chris Mead. He wrote an article in BRM a few months ago on 3D printing. Will enquire
  20. Progress on Bardun has been very slow but in the meantime Chris has been working hard on new Loco models and liveries and he is taking his layout Burnroyd to Doncaster this coming weekend - 12 th and 13th February. One of the new models which is based upon a modified Class 56 body and chassis is a Class 69 in primer. Construction is a mixture of scratchbuilt parts, 3D items and modified parts from other locos.
  21. Managed to get hold of a new TTS 08 sound chip and fitted to Loco. It works! So looks like I have a corrupted original chip. Is that it or can be be re blown or whatever?
  22. Thanks will give it ago. It is a small shunting layout, 5ft by 1ft.
