  1. It has also been suggested that insurance may pay less out, as it will take the combined sum. Fund raising should I would suggest be held back until insurance has paid out or as a urgent hardship fund. This is truly shocking and my thoughts are with loss effected.
  2. Majority of population live along its route or close to the ends.
  3. HS2 should be built quicker, we need to think bigger and start building for tomorrow instead of self obsessing with today. We have become to self important to the point of every individual is more important than the community, state or society.
  4. Modern liability management move risk to small companies or voluntary sector and problem is gone.
  5. I have thought for sometime that Letterspider is Dave Jones, I become more convinced with each post. The only issue is the grammar and obvious proof reading but perhaps that's intentional. I have no interest in a 92 but have in other products, so like to stay informed. Plus I am enjoying reading the latest excerpts of DJM sagas.
  6. I would run this business for 40k a year, way more than I currently earn and most of the time fairly easy going. A few trips to China a year would be the hard bit, along with exhibitions, accounts easy if you stay up to date. Then the fun research, design, advertising and sending out orders (oh that bit can be hard). If I had the money and desire I would start my own again or offer to buy DJM out.
  7. As Grahame put it the astute will back DJM when he chose to duplicate my mermaid, how's that worked out, got all liveries wanted?. Dave has been more than happy to go after others ideas but seems to think his are special and should be protected. I suspect he did cl.71 because he heard Hornby were working on it, so he could play hard done by later if his failed. Cl.92 was revenge attack against RevolutioN for taking Pendolino away, he had wanted to do it at Dapol, may even have been announced. Mermaid to stop Dapol getting the work, Shark a dig at NGS for not giving him work or enough support. Ownership of CAD \ CAM will be with the factory or design house. In my day job I survey buildings etc we maintain ownership of CAD drawings, and have resold them when someone new wants them. We usually try to get permission from originally client as a courtesy. I have a shark on order paid for with Kernow very tempted to cancel, but this latest comedy moment has not quite done it. That said I would not give DJM money directly but do back RevolutioN and Kickstarter, so do like Crowdfunding. Dave has always been a showman, loves being center stage making announcements, but struggles with delivery.
  8. No In reality it should being built from multiple starting points, Manchester, Crewe, Birmingham (heading both north and south) and London. This would have delivered it quicker, improved design, speed up legislation and allowed us to move on to the next priority. HS3 linking into HS2 and running from Holyhead to Hull via Chester, Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds, if this could also take cars and freight it would provide vital east west connection. High Speed travel and infrastructure investment is being delivered far to slowly in this country to the point that it is obsolete once delivered. We really need to grow up and invest in our infrastructure be it roads, rail, electricity, comma or water as we are being left behind. The needs of society need to out way the needs of the few.
  9. King Limited Edition announced that gets the King over the line and the MK5 coaches announced and cancelled in same sentence. I may be missing something as I was not they so posting from a very sedentary position.
  10. It is done to deflect attention away from him, he has form over many years. I seem to remember him doing it when at Dapol to Hornby and Bachman. His Cl74 was announced as he heard Hornby were working on one, his mermaid because I and Dapol were working to crowdfund one. Cl92 to get at Revolution for taking the Pendolino away from him (first announced as a DJM / Revolution product). He thinks customers will feel sorry for him and back the underdog if he points out that he was going to do it, but these bigger guys have taken it away from him. This is of course only my personal observations and thoughts and could be completely wrong.
  11. Not to my knowledge, he always has liked to announce other manufacturers stuff and got in to trouble for it years ago. It helps deflect attention and makes seem more pally.
  12. So Mk5 coaches announced and cancelled in same breath, but alludes to 2 manufacturers working on them head to head we only know of one set of announcements. Who else is working on Mk5 coaches? What else has DJ Models announced?
  13. When on internal use did they run with a break van or coach for staff? I know sites in WW2 ran a shunter wagons and coach or break van out to the storage sheds as there were no staff at each location to unload / load the vans.
  14. Wagons in a 3 gauges including new tooled O gauge, they invested in a new machine a year or two ago for new style tools. Some coaches in N were and may well still be. Not sure how much of the O gauge is done over here but I would guess a lot from the size of the runs.
  15. Wrong Dapol manufacture at Chirk, they own injection moulding machines and spray booths and have done for many years. Yes a lot of they range is made in China so is everyone else's. Other than Peco I think they are the only company making there own stuff in the UK. Bachmann sort of make it as they sort of own the factory but not the land but have little control.
  16. What gets me with all this is people bashing HS2 because its not paying out enough compensation and then arguing it should be cancelled as cost are escalating. Sorry but compensation needs to be fair for the properly owner and the tax payer and not treating it as a cash cow. We are increasingly becoming small minded and for projects like this we need to look at the future and put society first and not the individual.
  17. TomE I voted for the Class 68 with a vested interest, as I had an involvement, as I scanned it, it is interesting that as I understand it neither the Cl 50 or Cl 142 were scanned much to my disappointment, as I would have enjoyed scanning and then drawing them (in 2D) as I did for the Cl. 68. The Cl. 68 was a to draw in 2D with those curves but got there in the end, China then produced great 3D cads from my line work and Scan and consequently model in N and OO.
  18. I went to the premiere of they shall not grow old and recorded to watch tonight after a short documentary on the making of. In interview after the film Peter Jackson said they have repaired to black and white quality over 100 hours of film for free for the Imperial War Museum. At one point he picks up it shows the Lancashire regiment waiting in a lane to go over the top, with in 20 minutes of being filmed most of them were killed. This is a very funny and humorous film but very sad and highlights the tragedies of war very well. The post war bit was particularly sad, the way the veterans were treated. May all who served in any way, in any conflict RIP
  19. The phrase "money burning a hole in my pocket" sums it up, if I have cash I am more like to by a bar of chocolate etc, yes I am weak willed. Up to no good = illegal activities and I was not implying you were and I should have split my post up better. I prefer to pay by card, but do not see the need to abolish cash until it reaches a point where the system is costing to much to run compared to its use. A very long way of I should imagine, judging by the debate about getting rid of the 1pence coin.
  20. OP I replied to quoted authorities, the data you are on about should not from my very minimal understanding be mined from credit and debit cards. When you sign up to a smart meter, loyalty card or online account obviously data is being collated.
  21. Sorry I was only meaning from a business perspective and the whole task taken as a whole, every transaction has a administration cost but counting change takes a lot of time compared to its value. I personally prefer to pay by card, I hate withdrawing cash as I know I tend to waste some, that said the cash currently in my wallet seems to be lasting as I forget it is there. Do you really think the authorities care what you are buying, unless you are up to no good and even then they are so few of them it may go unnoticed.
  22. When I ran my trade stand I was told by another trade cash is best as it doesn't go through the books and card payments have a paper trail. Cash isn't free add up time sorting, counting and filling in paperwork, driving to bank or post office (less of them now do business banking) pay for parking, queuing and time at counter and finally driving home. Add on to this business insurance is higher because of handling cash and risk of being robbed and some banks charge for deposits of cash and charge to get change / float, all adds up to cash not being free compared to cards.
  23. We do need HS2, we need the increase in capacity that it will bring, about time the government and co stopped going on about the minimal time savings. The capacity increase will allow more freight onto the current route and will hopefully reduce long distance lorry movements. The current system is full and the debacle of current upgrading of various routes whilst trying (often failing) to run a service is clear for a all to see. We need to build new routes, as it is simply to difficult to upgrade the network that is operating at near capacity all the time. Up here around Manchester upgrades are taking ages, over running and causing commuters nightmares. The south west main line upgrade is another example, that should have been a new or partially new route, that should be HS2 or 3. We need to think bigger and longer term and less about short termism.
  24. I hope you don't buy model railway products that are made from plastics and metals extracted from the ground then shipped around the world burning more of the earth. I trust you don't buy cotton clothing which is having a massive environmental impact on large parts of the world, I trust you don't own a car. As someone who lives near Manchester I wish they would get on and build this, we desperately need the capacity on the London / Birmingham routes. Also get rid of the useless northern service and end the Saturday strikes (keep the guards).
  25. Tom I was referring to the Class 68 that Dave had no input into that is in the post I quoted, he most definitely did start the class 50. I amongst numerous others no doubt asked him to do the 50 several times.
