    Hornby B12

Well my B12 from Derails won't be arriving on Monday now as it has just been delivered! Nice to see a little note in the box indicating that it had been tested before dispatch too. What a beauty. Well done Hornby. As per Market65's post above, the joint underneath the boiler needs a little attention to disguise it better. The photographs make it more obvious than in real life though. When did Hornby stop providing front couplings? I don't meant the hook and bar but a screw link one.
  2. Provided it isn't too far away, you could enter the address of the nearest police station or petrol station (usually lots of cameras to catch fuel theives and for recording number plates).
  3. The undiscounted price of £4.50 now makes it slightly more than SMP (£43 for 10 yards).

Correct, but only 25p less when I looked. This was just in case you or anyone else had yet to order. (Whilst typing this, it looks like Pint of Adnams has found somewhere cheaper.) I'm guessing Dan has yet to update the Derails website. He called me this morning to say mine was in the post. Edit: Derails website now updated to show LNER and late BR in stock with more early BR on order.

Still cheaper at Derails Alan. Their prices have not increased.
  6. You mean those letters are made from potatoes? I always wondered what people did with those grubby, pebble-shaped objects you have to walk past when you enter the supermarket. You know the ones? A couple of aisles before the freezers with all the food in.
  7. I understand that quiet back streets are where they practice the Lancastrian martial arts before taking the car parks by surprise.
  8. Maybe she ought to spelt out "junk" and "fat" followed by teaching Logan how diet impacts future health?!
  9. The old Hornby coaches do not correspond to any known LNER coaches. They're an example of a once common practice of making rolling stock look similar to something real but compromising it to fit toy-like criteria. The teak finish is poor too. The bogies may well be a reasonable approximation of Gresley bogies. At one point Hornby fitted these coaches with BR Mark 1 bogies but that changed some time ago. The children may swing the argument in favour of the Railroad teaks though as they are robust. GR.King converted several of the old style coaches into approximations of GNR and ECJS coaches. Some of the conversions required extensive cutting and shutting but some were straightforward. The resulting train looked excellent I thought. There should be something on this forum somewhere. The coaches run on the Grantham exhibition layout. If you haven't customised RTR stock but want to have a go, these coaches would be an inexpensive way to start. Even simple repaints can produce acceptable models if you're not fussy about dimensions.
  10. Tim westwood? who's dat? Is it coz I is black?
  11. Tings dig dis chassis to go unda da se finecast streamlina. da choice hof da olda romford wheels iz coz it'll af operate ova peco trak - rp25 markits do wurk, though dey can drop into flangeways on occasions. da uva reason iz dat dees wheels iz gonna be red, an' da non-blackened centres iz easia to paint. da bogie wheels iz da east side sort, though.
  12. Hi Derek, I have somehow managed to miss this whole thread but have spent a few hours yesterday and today looking through from the first post. Inspirational ! I shall pay more attention from now on.
  13. Excellent work there KNP. I like the tall chimney. It hints at something more, whether connected with the foreground building or not, and provides a link to the brick factory in the background.
  14. Lovely shot of the fell in the background here.
  15. I can see why you omitted the third one Tony. That A4 has lost its brick chimney!
  16. Messenger shooting - Sorry Pete. Didn't mean to. Evolution - That makes sense. I can't help but think though that the time of a physical thankyou (e.g. a card or letter) has now passed and the idea that an email or message can do the job doesn't seem right. Centre - I agree. I have never had a problem accepting and using new words, but "incorrectly" spelt versions of existing words or longwinded substitutions for perfectly good words are irritating.
  17. You mean it's as simple as filling a tube with flammable liquid and setting fire to it? I wonder if the simplicity of Sheep Lane makes it an ideal layout to experiment with DCC?
  18. Affect and effect. For some reason muddling these two words appears to be particularly prevalent in engineering and amongst the more technical IT staff. I wonder if that is an example of people seeing something so many times, they start to adopt the incorrect word?
  19. The Oxford English Dictionary suggests only "thank you" and "thank-you".
