  1. Actually, I like them too. Aesthetically they are awful but there's something appealing from the 'beast of a loco' angle and they were a legitimate response to a problem.
  2. Perhaps the uncertainty regarding what the edging driver may be about to do causes the pedestrian to slow?
  3. Actually, one easy way to see which way up the union flag goes is to look at the flag of Australia (or NewZealand, Fiji ...).
  4. Had to laugh today as I filtered left at some traffic lights an noticed a shiny blue Mercedes stopped at the traffic lights. The only problem was that they were stopped on the far side of the junction, i.e. immediately in front of the lights that you look at before crossing the stop line! So they had passed over the line where you stop if the lights are red, across the junction itself and stopped in the 5m long (one car's length) section between the far edge of the junction and the post on which the lights are fixed. (Hope that makes sense.)
  5. The amazing thing about that is not so much following a sat nav without thinking but turning into a road so badly that both sides strike the walls. You really have to question whether the driver has actually driven an articulated lorry before?
  6. The union flag matches on both sides. You can see that the diagonal red cross is positioned towards the top of the diagonal white cross on the side nearest to the post. That is upside down. The flags were probably made in China anyway and this appears to be a common fault. Perhaps they copied a photograph of a British football fan's flag?
  7. That reminds me. Have they decided who will play the lead in the next zero zero seven film?
  8. Australia 40 : 44 England Which makes it three from three. Great stuff.
  9. Now, we just have to get rid of that EU cross (Genoa, Italy). Which leaves us with ... oh, hang on!
  10. Eh? The Angles came from what is now southern Denmark / northern Germany. They weren't a tribe of Britons.
  11. Well since Russia are in Euro 2016, anyone can get in! The difference will be that in future we will be the teams playing without shirts because they'll be too expensive. And it won't make any difference to the 6 Nations since everybody hates England anyway. On the bright side: no one will vote for the UK in Eurovision which means we will avoid the expense of hosting it. (I just can't wait for Australia to win.)
  12. Just waiting for the next thread on prices to kick off.
  13. I had the English to Welsh conversation switch happen to me too back in the seventies in Llangefni, Anglesey. I have never considered it to be representative of the Welsh a whole though, I have several Welsh friends. If it wasn't for the fact that so many people from other countries speak English I'm sure it would happen in the rest of the UK too. As it is people just wait until the 'foreigner' has left before moaning. My brother-in-law and his then girlfriend were once on a train in the Czech Republic where two middle aged women in the same compartment launched into an offensive and critical tirade against the dress and behaviour of foreign tourists. Upon reaching their stop, my brother-in-law and his girlfriend briefly spoke to each other in Czech and left (he was there teaching English in a Czech school and she was Czech). Human nature the world over. The same is true of tolerance and friendliness too though.
  14. Like a bus on the bridge? Good idea. A small tractor perhaps?

    Q6

Thanks Mark. Now if you could just hurry up and finish it that should result in a RTR model for the rest of us.
  16. I doubt ducks had a good life expectancy in any Chinese dynasty.
  17. Australia 28 : 39 England
  18. Cooper Craft only acquired Slaters 4mm kits. 7mm went elsewhere stayed with Slaters.
  19. Just thought I'd try to place an order but payment is part of the process. I pressed cancel at the payment screen so my order was not completed. My basket has been saved against my account but I wouldn't necessarily expect a business to check that. If Paul does get in touch I'll place an order. If not then I'm not out of pocket.
  20. Looks great. Unless you're on a mission to scratchbuild every last bit, I don't see why you can't buy ready made windows in brass or plastic. BTW have you thought about assembling your buildings horizontally? I'm sure it would be easier than sticking them to the wall.
