  1. Here's another photo of Subaltern Green accompanying Field Marshall Montgomery as he returns to Kingsbridge during the Summer of 1949. They are inspecting units of the WRAC from Devon and Cornwall in Kingsbridge Station Goods Yard with a good turnout from the townspeople of Kingsbridge looking on.
  2. Difficult to resist if it looks anything like this: http://www.masterpiecemodels.co.uk/images/latestnewsorg/366_on%20shed%20003%20(1).jpg
  3. If you mean H1409 Class 14xx 0-4-2 1470 in BR Lined black with early emblem £99, then I have seen several pictures of 1470 throughout the 1950s at Brixham or Churston. I'll have a look for lined black ones. BRixham ..... BRent ....quite close really...
  4. This black and white photo is the only one of Josephine that I have. I guess colour film was in short supply in Kingsbridge in 1947. She reminds me of someone else.......
  5. Taken from the same Bury article above: “The new board will be bringing in key individuals to assist in bringing new ideas and business models to ensure financial security.” Yeah right - an interest rate of 138% per annum and borrowings from an organisation called "Cash4Assets" secured on the ground. They sound like the sort of new ideas guaranteed to bring financial security. I wonder if the plans for the Gigg Lane Housing Estate/Retail Park already exist?
  6. Well they did let a bunch of "Cowboys" loose on it last week .... anything to make a few bob to pay for the Wembley White Elephant. The atmosphere at matches was so much better when England were on tour in the provinces a few years ago.
  7. A superb model but I suppose it should be with over 550 separate parts and a price of £330 for the base model and £475 for complex sound and smoke effects. Looks like one of these: http://www.aandhmodels.co.uk/ree-ex-plm-231-pacific-steam-locomotives-1451-c.asp
  8. A little winter project. Plenty of time to do it as '2251s' are rare West of Exeter and we probably won't see another one at Brent until next year. Lots of time to plan how to send 3202 back to it's home shed, Oswestry, as well
  9. Here's 2211 pictured at Kingswear in 1957, when it was working from Exeter shed (1954-58). http://railphotoprints.zenfolio.com/p158147385/h26692877#h26692877 2211 is mentioned as having travelled down Kingsbridge branch.
  10. I can't recall seeing 4948 Northwick Hall for a bit......substituting for a Castle on a passenger train or doubleheading with a Castle maybe.
  11. Three views of Afon Conwy: Afon Conwy looking upriver from Gorse Hill late on a summer evening. Afon Conwy and Conwy Castle and town, photo taken on a rather duller day. Flowing into the sea, as seen from the Great Orme
  12. I see that Mark Clattenburg has been dropped from the Premier League's refereeing "A Team" for this weekend, after "travel to match" irregularities, so he could get to an Ed Sheeran concert in time. I would have expected the penalty for attending an Ed Sheeran concert to have been much harsher.
  13. With some "rivet counting" this looks like a good match for the tender in that photo: A modern interpretation, of course - the tender of 6960 Raveningham Hall - but it seems consistent re the positioning of the emblem elements relative to the "rivets".
  14. Innocent times indeed - I wonder if you would be allowed to video that many young boys in their trunks and shorts in 2014, and I wonder how many of the boys waiting at the end of the platform and around the crossing gates would be misbehaving themselves nowadays. This Railway Roundabout video is also very good too, and the first 30 seconds or so actually feature Brent in colour before heading down the Kingsbridge Branch. It might be of interest to thread followers who haven't seen it before: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=7NcuJOQZ76A#t=0 Edit: Noticed some foreign coaches (circa 1'18) and something very special for T & A around 4 mins in (or near the end!) (Somebody needs to embed it properly for me)
  15. Might be - you can never have too much of City of Truro. Enjoyed the NRM as usual, and SWMBO was much taken by the "Warehouse" this time for some reason. Also managed a round trip to Whitby on the NYMR, but they seemed to be having terrible trouble with several motive power failures last week. 5029 was partially hidden behind other stuff, but was apparently in service the day after our visit - that would have been better than the Q6 and Rat that we had.
  16. Three from North Yorkshire: Whitby Abbey and St.Mary's Church seen from Captain Cook's viewpoint (well actually from near his statue). Helmsley Castle. Rievaulx Abbey catching the last of the day's sun.
  17. This figure from a controversial newly launched range might serve as a starting point, although some early reviewers have criticised the general proportions of the figure and the rather featureless head. The next exhibit I came across was called "Bulleid" - the prominent chain drive clearly indicates that it is constructed from the leftovers of the sectioned NRM Merchant Navy locomotive. Speaking of the NRM, last week it was good to see a proper locomotive overseeing proceedings from the turntable once again.
