  1. Here's a cheap and poorly described postcard for anyone wishing to complete their collection of exotic locomotives photographed at Brent: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/POSTCARD-SOUTH-BRENT-RAILWAY-STATION-DEVON-W-R-GAYS-REAL-PHOTO-U-PLYMOUTH-1926-/351180477987?pt=UK_Collectables_Postcards_MJ&hash=item51c3fcd623 LNER 4474 "Victor Wild" attacking the South Devon Banks during the 1925 Locomotive Trials. It did manage to top Dainton at 31 mph - apparently a speed unheard of at that time. £140? makes me glad I know nothing about the value of postcards, but I do know that a better quality reproduction of the same photograph can be found in Middleton Press' "Branchlines to Kingsbridge" book.
  2. Completely but it's a pity Brucie can't regenerate like Dr Who. Whoever thought we've got one female presenter let's add another very similar female presenter from the reserves for balance made a p*sspoor lazy decision. The beginning of a slow decline I think.
  3. Rob, I think this image might show the 1928 end result of all your shunting of the Paddington-Kingsbridge through coach: http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/image/epw023737?search=kingsbridge%20station&ref=0 Interesting long coach with recessed doors parked in the "back siding" at Kingsbridge - presumably a "Dreadnought" or similar as 1928 is too early for Centenaries. Nice collection of buses in the yard - 1928 must be just prior to the formation of Western National. Also found this 1930 aerial view of Brent (there is also a poorer quality "side-on" aerial view in the same sequence): http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/image/epw033015?search=south%20brent%20railway%20station&ref=0 It is worth registering with the site to get the extra "magnification", as I might now know where the stables at Brent may have been:
  4. All the talk of the Finchings 2014 Tour has reminded me that I have not shown these two photographs of the Finchings 1897 North American Tour, which include the first known picture of them at Brent Station. This is, of course, Brent, Ontario, Canada. After a short stay at the "Brent Boxcar Hotel", here they are pictured waiting for a train back to civilisation with their Canadian aunts. The aunt pictured on the left was apparently a pioneering female lumberjack of some repute.
  5. I couldn't find any official Finching Merchandise at RMWeb Live. A missed marketing opportunity for ANTB Enterprises. However, whilst taking the air outside at Ricoh during lunchtime, I came across an "entrepreneur" having difficulties shifting his large stock of "Yeovil" scarves and those funny scarves in both team's colours. For some reason he had a small stock of RMWeb Live 2014 unofficial memorabilia which included these: Not perfect by any means but I had to have one.
  6. ANTB Enterprises are pleased to unveil their exciting Brent Leisurewarewear Autumn Collection. Customers can design their own t-shirt with their favourite ANTB image printed on it. Prices start from £14.99 and all profits will be used to purchase new locomotives and rolling stock for ANTB. Featured items above are: Top left - an example from our "24/7" collection for fanatics who just can't get enough of ANTB. Top right - the "Team Brent" t-shirt - which we anticipate will be our best seller. Bottom left - a "Spam" t-shirt from our "Dark Side" range. Not sure what the demand for these will be. Bottom right - an example from our hard wearing "Rhinowear" niche collection. Edited for "Leisureware" - the ANTB Enterprises pottery ware range isn't due for release yet. Some lovely mugs etc.
  7. Yes, it's detected a lot of (BR) SR propaganda material, although this is apparently permitted on liberal ANTB.
  8. A pair of rare 1930s colour photographs of two Rhinos in the exotic animals holding compound in Brent woods They will be collected by Mr Mottershead, owner of Chester Zoo, if the BBC give him planning permission for the Zoo in next week's episode.
  9. I would suggest a separate parody/pastiche art gallery would be the best place for these images. The Beyer Garratt wing of the gallery would be most impressive with over 150 images on display. I just hope the GWR wing remains fairly empty, although this may be a forlorn hope, as I have noticed a few kitsch Kings beginning to appear on various threads in recent days.
  11. A couple of screen shots to be going on with: Here's a screen shot of the dis-United pointing fingers with zero eye-contact being made: Analysis: "Four players all pointing fingers in different directions and at different things. None of them know what they are doing." And also mentioned earlier in the thread - LVG's newly invented "Defensive Diamond" guarding the United penalty spot, but not much else, and two seconds later Leicester equalise. Analysis: "This is United's back four in a diamond formation We normally talk about diamonds in midfield not the back four"
  12. Yes that was hilarious too and you could have thrown a small tablecloth over the four of them. Bizarre.
  13. I particularly enjoyed the MoTD2 post match analysis shot of the Man.Utd back four all steadfastly ignoring each other, whilst they were all pointing fingers in different directions - "Watch the left wing"..... "Watch the right wing"..... "Watch the centre"..... "Make sure they don't get behind us"......Priceless.
  14. Yes, I shall have to re-visit my "Cambiasso" post, as he seems to be quite happy at Leicester after all: 1. Cambiasso in shock as he is told he is to be exiled to a struggling East Midlands team which has never won anything worthwhile in 125 years. 2. Cambiasso, looking happier and living the dream, after scoring the equaliser against Man.Utd yesterday.
  15. But only Man. Utd got buried almost singlehanded by Jamie Vardy - one goal, one assist, two penalties "won" and an "accidental" assist for the fifth goal. Not a bad full Premiership debut for a chap who was playing Non-League football in Tier Eight four years ago for Stocksbridge Park Steels. He seems to have made the "step-up" to the Premier League quite well and he only cost about three weeks of Falcao's wages to buy.
  16. "For the first time in their Premier League history (Manchester) United have thrown away a two goal lead to lose." (BBC Football) and I was there. Yeaahhhh..... Well done you Super Foxes......losing 3-1 and then..... Four goals in 21 minutes ain't bad and we could have had another two in that purple patch I would recommend any other Premier League team due to play Man.Utd.to attack them as often as possible, and not stand off like Q.P.R did last week, because their back four is absolutely SHOCKING at the moment. I think the arrogant Mr. LVG may have to abandon his "Total Football" strategy for the time being, as it can't be implemented properly with the shower of dismal defenders United have at the moment.
  17. "However, our difference in philosophy on how to manage the club made me decide to step aside and allow the club to move forward in the direction Vincent wants." (Solskjaer) Is that a "posh" way of saying "I've been sacked because, after over eight months at Cardiff, I've still got no idea what my best line-up is, or how to win football matches on a regular basis."?
  18. Three "chocolate box" views from a Selworthy Beacon Circular Walk Three ladies forced to picnic in the unpleasant surroundings of Selworthy. Medieval pack horse bridge at Allerford View down the main street of Bossington
  19. Not to visit Dunster this time, but we did get off the train at Watchet to explore the few remains of the West Somerset Mineral Railway there and to walk the two miles of it's former trackbed to Washford.
  20. Tell that crow to keep smoking the "good stuff" - "How lucky humans are, how free" - made me smile.
  21. Abridged North to South walk through Dunster: A view towards Dunster Castle with the Yarn Market in the middle foreground. Some of the delightful cottages in Park Street. After crossing the Gallox Bridge, some slightly more rustic cottages. A twenty minute walk through the Crown Estates Woods and pleasant views of Exmoor are revealed.
