  1. Three from North Yorkshire: Whitby Abbey and St.Mary's Church seen from Captain Cook's viewpoint (well actually from near his statue). Helmsley Castle. Rievaulx Abbey catching the last of the day's sun.
  2. This figure from a controversial newly launched range might serve as a starting point, although some early reviewers have criticised the general proportions of the figure and the rather featureless head. The next exhibit I came across was called "Bulleid" - the prominent chain drive clearly indicates that it is constructed from the leftovers of the sectioned NRM Merchant Navy locomotive. Speaking of the NRM, last week it was good to see a proper locomotive overseeing proceedings from the turntable once again.
  3. Maybe, apart from the first coach, which seems to have large "Sunshine" windows, and from the window and door arrangement, might be a Diagram A22 1938 Corridor First. It looks a bit like :http://www.cometmodels.co.uk/modules/viewcatpic.php/8/623 and looks similar to a photo on p231 (fig 394) in Russell. Hope I'm wrong, as I've no idea why a Ist Class coach would be a strengthener coach, unless it was the nearest to hand or just being conveniently moved. The 2nd coach might have a guards ducket, which I didn't think were that common on GWR coaches - perhaps that's a foreigner?
  4. Viking raiding party gets first sight of Dun Fhoithear (Dunnottar) through the mist in AD 900?
  5. Mention of Brandon makes me feel old. I used regularly to go the British Speedway Championships there .....Ivan Mauger, Barry Briggs and Nigel Boocock et al....only about 40 years ago now.
  6. Sorry! I should have been more careful it's "Britain from above" not "air", as per this website: http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/ Put "Leicester" in the search engine and several pics are available (after a bit of wading through),including a couple of "decent" ones (when fully magnified). The views are usually incidental to shots of the Power Station, which the GCR shed was next to.
  7. Have you tried "Britain from Air" there are a few "incidental" views of Leicester GCR shed, which might be useful if "zoomed in" on, if you haven't seen them already. I wasn't aware of the variations in the roof structure until today, so thanks for an interesting half hour anyway
  8. Two from Pembrokeshire: Tenby Harbour and Lifeboat Station: Ramsey Island with the last of the sea mist just being burnt off in the early afternoon:
  9. Summer shortage of wasps on ANTB and in the South Hams ends as a surprise deal is brokered with the Ricoh Arena to import some (London) Wasps via High Wycombe.
  10. Apparently Watford's new Manager/Head Coach of the Week is a bloke called Jok(e)anovic - you couldn't make it up: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29518405
  11. I thought your dislike of cordylines was bordering on the pathological, until I googled images of "4mm Scale Cordylines" It seems to be a niche that ANTB makes a great contribution to, and I couldn't help noticing that there are three plans showing what must be your proposed cordyline planting scheme so all is not lost.
  12. The last Rhino left Brent on the 6th April 1964*, shortly after the British Transport Police arrested the Directors of the Brent Rhino Rustling Ring (established 1947) in the Packhorse. I think I reported that the wrecking gang recovery crew had accidently destroyed and burnt the Finchings' bench much earlier in the thread (boo!), but it seems I was wrong and it was actually salvaged and moved to Willow House Residential Care Home, Hill Side, South Brent ,seen here: So the bench is there waiting for the Finchings, and it just needs Rob to persuade the Finchings to move into Willow House now Brent Station is closed.........(more boos) *6th April 1964 was the last day for Goods Traffic at Brent.
  13. The last ever stopping train calling at Brent should have one of these: "Evening Star" seems an appropriate locomotive for this sad duty. There should be a special train to recover the redundant cordylines for replanting at Totnes.
  14. One in memory of the Late Dowager Duchess of Devonshire. Perhaps a mixture of the man-made and the natural but I like it. The Cascade at Chatsworth and looking across the valley.
  15. Whilst we're on canals - "The Black Pearl" moored on the Ashby Canal in Leicestershire. No sign of Johnny Depp though.
  16. Give up Dunno ..... But this pair of castings featuring the Finching Sisters wearing GWR summer uniforms and firing Dean Single No. 3001 'Amazon' in 1907 are hot.
  17. That'll be this then: http://www.cornwallrailwaysociety.org.uk/uploads/7/6/8/3/7683812/4829392_orig.jpg taken on the last day of public services 3rd October 1964.
  18. Half expecting to see images of a controversial French novelist riding rhinos and buffaloes for a minute there.
  19. Well I didn't know that the Imperial German Navy had a secret U-boat pen near Padstow. Spookily the real U17 apparently accounted for SS Glitra, the first British merchant ship sunk by a U-boat, on 20 October 1914 see http://www.naval-history.net/WW1NavyBritishBVLSMN1408.htm Meanwhile back to ANTB has it got one of these yet for variety:http://www.ehattons.com/69557/Hornby_R6682A_Extra_long_CCT_Van_B_in_LNER_livery/StockDetail.aspx
  20. That's just a boring herbivore dinosaur and a possible dinner for a carnivorous dinosaur. ANTB's recent fleeting visitor was usually pleased if Triceratops was on the dinner menu.
