eastwestdivide
Furness Vale on the Buxton line last Saturday, during a jaunt* round Derbyshire using a Derbyshire Wayfarer ticket. Couldn't manage a shot to include the semaphores. * This was the oldest vehicle I travelled on all day. Class 195 Sheffield-Chinley, walk via Peak Forest Canal to Furness Vale, Class 150 to Buxton, Trans Peak bus to Bakewell, some other bus round the villages to Matlock, Class 170 Matlock-Derby, Class 222 Derby-Sheffield. And a few tea shops in between. Someone made the interesting observation that Northern's gangwayed 150s are found mostly on services on the East side of the Pennines, where they tend to work singly, while the non-gangwayed ones are mostly on services on the West side, where they often work doubled up. No doubt there's a reason that a simple swap couldn't happen, but the impact on revenue protection must be worth investigating. 9
