What a machine! For my money the mother and father of all  20th century 4-6-0s at the very least and the epitome of Churchward's greatness.

Yum.

What a luscious, tempting prospect, if Accurascale were to make her their next loco !

Although not in steam yesterday it was nice to see 2999 Lady Of Legend in the flesh and admire her beauty up close.

Also parked up was this Hawksworth 9084 12 wheel J18 first class sleeping car. Built in 1950 it would have entered service in blood and custard. The bogies look similar to those fitted to the H57 restaurant coach , recently built from the Comet kit by @Neal Ball

I’m hoping both the Saint and Pendennis Castle are at Didcot during our tour on August 15th. Obviously since moving here, I’ve not been back to Didcot for ages and the last time 2999 was still being built.

Should I send Drew my wish list of locos in steam 😎🤣

2999's green looks a bit 'insipid Hornby' to me. I hope the real thing is darker.

Yes I agree, hopefully it’s just the light. If you look at the tender in the first photo, it’s a lot darker than the tender in the last one, where it is decidedly insipid.

Didn’t they all have?  Just not visible on most of the rest?

Another pannier,1501 in lined black, was seen passing through Bewdley, this one had gesticulating valve gear, something that @Captain Kernowappreciates and will be admired on the forthcoming Rapido model.

You lot (with two exceptions) are all too young to remember how quick these were on ES workings in and out of Paddington. Lovely Wallcharts Clank too.

Coming out of Bridgnorth at the weekend, it were steady and sure footed with even those Gresley things.

Lovely Engine and an advanced Pannier that is totally cuddly.

Ummmmmm!

I do remember them on ECS workings at Paddington and was excited to cop 1500 herself . I should have got out more!

Didn't they waddle because of that short wheelbase ?

Some of us superannuated old gits remember them greeting passengers westbound out of Paddington .Resting like patient pit ponies on their buffer stops with their departures. Which brings me again to the question of age……and lucky am I that ,despite an introductory nod to Woodham’s yard a few months back, hopefully I’ll still be here at midnight to celebrate that certain decade. YEE HAH. Come on Rapido.Don’t be too late, please. Bless all …and those sadly no longer with us..

Possibly an interesting GWR-themed hint in Rapido’s latest Facebook post:

https://m.facebook.com/RapidoTrainsUK/

If I’m not putting two and two together and making five, a proper autocoach would be extremely welcome.

Mind you, I’d also very much like a decent 14xx to pull it - my DJM effort is frankly a complete dog utterly incapable of the slow running required to pull vaguely realistically into my bay platform 😡
