Bargain Hunters Mark 2

Recommended Posts

I was at Crewe Heritage Centre yesterday for the 30th Anniversary of Class 47 and APT Preservation event.

Obtained a Janus "British Steel Scunthorpe No.5" for £49.99 from Kernow.   Presumably a show special as it is still £94.99 on their website.   Cleaned the wheels with Servisol 10 and it runs beautifully.   Several remaining on the stand when I left last night.   Kernow scheduled to be there all weekend as per their website.

DJ Models also there selling "not quite perfect" J94's at various reduced prices, presumably depending on whether they are tested etc.   Didn't take too much notice as I'm not in the market for a J94.<G>

For info, details of the event are here:  https://crewehc.org/crewe-heritage-centre-news/

This week I got 2 Heljan 02's for £89 each from Hattons and a new Maunsell restaurant car from Jadlam for £42 inc del. THe Restaurant cars are also in stock at £43.25 from Waltons in Altrincham, whereas Hattons and rails want the full list price. These coaches are really nice models.

It's pretty well the lowest around so I would call it a bargain.

Considering this was a limited edition and most places have several still in stock, many at below RRP suggests it hasn't sold as well as it might.

(cut and pasted from my email)

Valid for the first 100 Customers only! Dont hang around...

Use discount code PRIMEHORN for 10% off all Hornby Orders (including Pre-Orders) at our website www.jadlamracingmodels.com, (not Amazon).

Ordered some stuff from Jadlam last week, 2 Revell Tornado F.3's for 15 notes each (Bargain or what!) and a Hornby Maunsell Dining Car. The packing list gave the coach listed but upon opening yesterday evening only the 2 Tornados were inside.

Email sent today so hopefully it will get sorted.

EDIT: Coach is inbound via a second Package so all good! :)

Did the F3s come with realistic concrete ballast weight for the radomes ?!

Managed to pick up a Heljan Class 58 in original RF red/grey (admittedly with temperamental lights) for £75. Then I discovered you can only use the code once - not sure if it works on multiple purchases if you add them to your basket and checkout all at once.

As far as I remember it's valid for 'one checkout', including multiple items from multiple sellers as long as they're in your basket, rather than 'one item'.

15% off everything over £20 on Ebay today until 8pm - just type PIGGYBANK into the discount box at checkout.

Just bought a Hornby 71 for use with my 74 body kit for £67.96, thank you for the tip off.

ps anybody want to buy a R3373 body? :D

Gaugemaster in Ford (Sussex) have just listed a load of discounted EFE diecast.  Admittedly diecast stuff these days is pretty much worthless which is probably why EFE effectively sank but that London Transport Thames Tipper truck was irresistible and there are some Tube Stock carriages in there for those who like them.

For anyone in or near Paisley, WH Smith in the town centre has a wire basket full of bookazines at £1, including the Irwell Press Class 50 volume by Tony Wright.

This seems to be more widespread than just Paisley.  My local WHS also has a wire basket with a dump of old bookazines including the class 50 one, On Shed Part 1, and one on Railway Disasters.  Here you are requested to make a £2 donation to cancer research per mag - although a few weeks back there was no suggestion of the amount at a time when a whole host of other railway bookazines were there - I picked up a BRM trackplans, and one of the Moving the Goods series then.  Worth keeping a look out for!
