  1. There was a time that it was possible to see redundant box van bodies used as sheds, although they are getting thinner on the ground. However, I don't recall ever seeing brake van bodies used in the same way - was there a reason for this (apart from the fact that there were vastly fewer of them)?
  2. If one looks at Google streetview, just to the southwest of Lanydrock Road bridge at Plymouth (just south west of Laira depot), there is (beyond what looks like a carriage washer) what appears to be a station complete with platform, buildings and lighting standards. I assume that this is something to do with the servicing facilities at Laira, but is it what is looks like? Are there any better pictures of it? https://maps.app.goo.gl/GHFoE3QnCS9AUjaE7 Stu
  3. What is the source of the fencing and gates please? Stu
  4. Some very nicely observed detailing on this layout!
  5. That's great thanks. Is that Dapol or Hornby and how different are they to each other?
  6. Would there be any nice kind soul out there who could provide me with a picture of the Hornby/Dapol L&Y pug chassis with motor fitted (I'm assuming that they look very similar, which may of course be incorrect!)? Thanks in advance
  7. Folks, I thought I knew the Woodhead Route quite well but I've just spotted a group of sidings on an old map that I don't remember seeing before, and I wondered what their purpose was. North side of the line to the west of Hazlehead, on a map they are almost directly south of Carlecotes. According to NLS there even seems to have been a turntable there. What were they for and when did they close? Stu
  8. Does anybody know if the bodies from the earlier Triang wagons (i.e. those with the open axleboxes) would be a direct fit on Trackmaster chassis? I'm led to believe that Triang used the Trackmaster moulds for their first wagons. Stu
  9. Thanks for all the replies - I think I more or less guessed that was the case. Stu
  10. Does anybody know how much longer HSTs will be running? I thought I heard that the GW ones will be stopping some time this year? Stu
  11. I notice that the Atlas/Rivarossi/Concor N scale SW1500 seems to have body sides that taper at the cab end, but all the prototype pictures (and also from what I can see HO scale models) I have seen seem to indicate that the sides should not taper. Is this a fault in the manufacturing as I know that earlier SW types did have tapered sides, and that the Atlas model wasn't necessarily too accurate? The pics I have seen of the Micro Trains model have parallel sides. Stu
  12. I'm new to US railways. I'm interested in short lines and have noticed that the vast amount of locos on them seem to have numbers displayed that appear to be a similar format. Is this a legal requirement and is it local to e.g. the state, or is it national? Stu
  13. I have a spare Lifelike N scale F7 chassis. Are there any alternative bodies available that would fit? I've done a search on the net but not found anything obvious. Stu
  14. Maybe very slow, but it is progress. At least you have something to progress🙂 Stu
  15. Is there a standard axle diameter for Triang locos or does it depend on the model? I'm particularly interested in the Nellie type 0-4-0 tanks. Stu
  16. Looking for only the cab, so rest of body condition immaterial. Stu
  17. The cover photo of the book hints that the inset track continued over the viaduct - is that the case? Would there have been vehicular access across the viaduct? If that was the case I would think it would very unique. Stu
  18. Are there any (probably 3D printed) alternative bodies for the L&Y Pug (Hornby/Dapol)? I've done a search but only found one for 7mm scale NG. Stu
  19. My wife sells quite a bit on ebay, but we have noticed in the last year or so that few people seem to bother to leave feedback. Is it just us, or is this a general trend?
  20. I need the space and therefore these need to go. Does anybody in the Ipswich area want them? Within reason I might be able to deliver. Otherwise I will have to reluctantly bin them. Can't be bothered with ebay. Stu
  21. Some really good modelling here. I particularly like the way your wagons are weathered. Stu
