RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted February 7, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 7, 2018 Do like the new avatar! Thanks, but for some reason it's not working on my home computer. I know it's 'taken' elsewhere. Why, I wonder?

RMweb Gold Popular Post Captain Kernow Posted February 13, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 13, 2018 Another step towards getting the layout underway was taken last night, when I was fortunate enough to acquire some small goods yard buildings for 'Bethesda Sidings'. They had originally been acquired by our area group as part of someone else's layout, but have now been deemed surplus to the club's requirements, so I offered some money, which our treasurer was only too happy to accept! They will go in the goods yard, together with the scratchbuilt goods shed and weighbridge office previously shown on the thread:

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted March 19, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 19, 2018 Not 'Bethesda Sidings' quite yet, but here is one of the locos that will be seen on the Vale of Radnor Light Railway, whilst working on another outrageously improbable light railway, namely the South Polden Light Railway. Barclay diesel 'Buntie' is seen here in the early 1960s in the SPLR goods siding at Bleakhouse Road, which was the interchange location with British Railways:
RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted March 19, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 19, 2018 Buntie looks just the ticket, CK. Wizard stuff! Rob
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted March 29, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 29, 2018 Although the Vale of Radnor Light Railway was an independent concern until the end, there is evidence if you check the archives in the respective County Records offices of Radnorshire and Somerset that they may have had one or two directors in common with the South Polden Light Railway, that ran across the Levels from the BR station at Bleakhouse Road. This would support theories that were circulating amongst railway enthusiasts at the time regarding how some of the SPLR locos ended up 'on loan' to the VoRLR from time to time. The Peckett 'Plantagenet' is reported to have been one of those locos that saw use in both Somerset and Radnorshire. Here is 'Plantagenet' approaching Bleakhouse Road, when returning to the SPLR after having had some attention at Highbridge:

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted April 16, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 16, 2018 I'm getting close to the time when I can make a start on building the baseboards for 'Bethesda Sidings'. The new railway room is just about ready. Today, I used a bit of spare plywood (which is 15" wide), to pose the pointwork and buildings, to get an idea of whether I need to make the scenic section 4' in length, or 4' 6". I chose the latter in the end. The scenic section will end up being 16" or perhaps 17" wide but I can't go too far beyond that. It looks as if the plain line will end up being some of my existing stocks of C&L flexitrack, the thinner sleepered variety, in order to match the pointwork.
RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted April 16, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 16, 2018 5ft would be better when it comes to scenery!
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted April 16, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 16, 2018 5ft would be better when it comes to scenery! I know, but that's just too long. Iron will being applied here!

RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted April 16, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 16, 2018 Seriously, that's looking very balanced. I like the way that it all 'emerges' from the over bridge. Is this not different from the original concept?
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted April 16, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 16, 2018 4'8 1/2" surely? Nah, should be 7foot and a 1/4inch.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted April 16, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 16, 2018 5ft would be better when it comes to scenery! 5ft is quite wide for a 4ft 6" long board.

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted April 16, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 16, 2018 (edited) Is this not different from the original concept? It's pretty much what I have planned all along, given the limitations on size that apply. Edited April 16, 2018 by Captain Kernow
