A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

Poetry now?

Really?

You know my views on Art. Do you want me to get started on Poetry now, too?

Dear Captain

Are we not artist, us mere railway modellers. Don't we reflect life as it was or we imagine how it was, just like painters, sculptures, poets etc. Don't we at exhibitions entertain the public, just like actors, minstrels, performance artist etc.

I wonder if anyone has written about their layout in the form of a poem? Now that would set CK off.

I fear that that may be a rhetorical question.

I have composed a haiku about my layout:

The Mid-Cornwall Lines:

Sandy beaches, sunny skies -

Summer in the West.

I also have a vague recollection that way back in the 60s/70s there was a Christmas issue of RM featuring a 009 layout (possibly from the Macclesfield MR Group?), where the article describing it was indeed written in verse. If I have a chance when I get home tonight I'll check my index.

Found the detail from this site:

http://magazineexchange.co.uk/cw/railway-modeller-magazine-december-1969-issue.html

Railway of the Month, December 1969 - "Deep and Crisp and Even" featured  Macclesfield MRG's 009 Meerbrook layout, photographed in wintry mood, with an accompanying poem by Ken Ball.

Right, you lot.

I'm not going to take your bait.

Otherwise, it might get all conceptual, darlings.

I've always enjoyed your wittering's Tim especially Horatio the platelayer who got spooked by the ghost at Marley Tunnel.

Aren’t the Witterings in Sussex - a dashed long way from CK’s last reported position at Horrocksford?

I'm now considering Blubberhouses.

Most apposite, given the rubbish running qualities that my very nicely-weathered (by Tom Foster) Dean Goods has acquired.

Is there a track plan of the layout?

Welcome to the forum John, whilst I search for it there's a little taster on page 1 https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/69664-a-nod-to-brent-fun-friendly-frivolity-and-happy-days-in-the-south-hams-1947/

Blubberhouses, there are no driveways there our Captain, everyone parks on their lawns.

It so sad to hear that yet another "modern" GWR model locomotive, well any model n-gin doesn't perform as expected. :ireful:
