Hi, it's been a while since I've posted anything sorry but had lots on like weddings, getting carried away with Edgelane Junction and stuff!!

The n gauge 108 will be getting finished very shortly so expect an update soon!

D6992 has had a new motor fitted thanks to Phil!! So I'll have to get a new sound decoder. And fish the weathering on it. But before I weather any new projects I'm going to fit a bass reflex speaker to the green 37, I've never done it before but I'll post it on thus thread as it all adds to the finished article. If that goes well I'll do the same to D6992 whilst it's stripped.

Thanks for the patience!!

Paul

Evening all, sorry it's been a while since any posts or updates but I've been getting carried away with Edgelane and weathering track!

So I thought it was about time I did something and posted something. The green class 37 is in the final stages but nothing worth putting photos on yet of, but I've returned to my green class 40, I had only weathered it with the airbrush in my early attempts, an although I'm happy with the body the bogies needed attention, so I made a start on them tonight to give that grubby rusty look of a green 40. Although the 40 has full yellow ends I really don't think the split headcode version suits this, so I'm going to repaint it with a small yellow warning panel.

But for tonight a couple of pics of the first stage of bogie weathering.

Tonight I've added extra pickups and painted the wheels, as I'm going for a pritty run down state I've painted them with 'rusty rails'. I've also added screw link couplings and attacked the body!

I did say yesterday I was removing the full yellow ends but having searched the net for photos etc, most split box versions seemed to have full yellow ends by 1967/68, so in keeping with Edgelane's time frame I'll stick with it.

There's a few windows on the side needing to be glued back in and the frost grills are in a rather terrible state, I've then used the fibre pen to remove the 'frame dirt' that's been on for a while.

Still lots to do, I've got a couple of detailing packs in the post and the bogies still need a bit more attention, I'm also thinking of renumbering it D326 but still unsure on that one because of its rather chequered history.

Rusty wheels!

The extra pickups using brass wire.

And finally a rather run down 40 with dodgy frost grills!!

A couple more pics, although the light is not really giving a true impression of how it looks. I've dirtied up the bogies more and given the body a bit more of a faded look.

Think I'll replace the steam heating pipes on the bogies with new ones though.

Here's the pics

Looking forward to you adding the detailing kits

Great work

Brian

Thanks Brian

Just a few pipes etc, then a bit of roof dirtying an it's done more or less until I get the sound chip :)

What a dog! Always did like the split boxers - must get onePhil

Thanks Phil

The first 40 I ever had was 40126 by Lima 20 odd years ago, so I had to get another split box, I'll have to get it sound fitted for a day out on Abbotswood ;)

Thanks again, Paul

Well it's been a while so apologies but today this turned up at Edgelane Junction on it's way to the works.

The Lima deltic was one of the first trains I had as a kid and although not the best looking loco around (I know I'll upset a few people there!!) I have to have at least one!

The model itself is really good but like the 37 and as talked about many times before, it's ride height makes it look like a monster truck on little wheels!!

So first thing done today was chop and file the bogie towers and it looks far better, not sure if I can get it any lower but I'll have another look tomorrow.

More pics to follow soon!

Little bit more done tonight, I've lowered the ride hight as much as it can go and it looks far better. I've also made a start on weathering the bogies, not entirely happy with the look but it'll do for a base layer.

Couple of pics, thoughts and comments always welcome :)

Hi - interested to know how you added the extra pick ups to the Whistler, as my 40 is a bit juddery and this would surely help... Is it just brass wire of a small diameter soldered to the brass section in middle of bogie, and then bent to touch the inner surface of the wheels ? Cheers.

Hi, yer that's more or less spot on, just a four pieces of brass wire about 4cm long soldered onto the original brass pick up plate either side of each bogie and bent outwards to give good contact to the rear wheels. I'm not home at the moment but if I get chance I'll see if a can get a pic for you mate, there might be one on here already though I could be wrong. Let me know if you need any more info.

Many thanks, Paul

Hi Paul - Ride height looks a lot better - Bogies seem a bit too bunged up for a Deltic, I remember that they were dirty, but the detail always remained well defined, but that's just me :dontknow:.

Merry Christmas & Happy new year.

Cheers, Bob.

Hi Phil

I've been thinking of that one for while, I seen a thread on here some time back :) I had a feeling you would point me in the direction of that one though ;)

It's unusual so supposed best do it :)

Thanks, Paul

An early finish from work so I've got a bit more done this afternoon.

I've detailed the buffer beams, gave a slight dusting of weathering to the underframe, added double arrows and re-numbered it.

Hopefully the yellow ends won't need many more coats then I can weather the body.post-18716-0-37137100-1419862926_thumb.jpg
