Rivercider
Last one looks like the bays at Plymouth. The A4 I think is Mallard. If so it could possibly be the Northern Rubber Special from Retford to Blackpool, 30 Sept 1961. Seems to be attracting some attention, I remember it being well publicised, I have a photo of it at Blackpool. If you can read it the reporting number was on a plate on the middle lamp bracket and was 1X08 I would agree with the class 22s being at Plymouth North Road, before rebuilding was completed in 1962 judging by the crane, cheers
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted January 21, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 21, 2016 Odd, my reply from last night has vanished!! Anyway No.4 is definitely Plymouth North Road.
RMweb Premium keefer Posted January 21, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 21, 2016 The photo of the 22s also shows the amount of detail differences between two locos of the same class!
RMweb Gold russ p Posted January 21, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 21, 2016 What are the oval's ,the newer loco appears to have glazed ones? Also what are the circles on the early loco? Never known a class of loco with so much 'stuff' on the front end!

RMweb Gold russ p Posted January 24, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 24, 2016 Thanks, but the circles on the nearest loco either side of the gangway aren't marker lights. I thought they could be horns but you say they are the ovals . I guess the horns must be the angled ones like on a 56 etc

Never known a class of loco with so much 'stuff' on the front end! I am not sure which is which but 'The Westerns Hydraulics' by J K Lewis describes the external detail of the early 22s no.s D6300-5 '....., end marker lights beneath headcode discs and a rather complex arrangement of combined airhorn and air-intake grilles.' cheers
RMweb Gold russ p Posted January 24, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 24, 2016 Thanks, I wonder if the early loco's had a different cab heat system. The two circles at the top appear to be air vents of some sort. I wonder if the lower ones are some other intake for heating or something

I wonder if the lower ones are some other intake for heating or something Sorry for the error in my previous post. I was looking at the wrong diagram. The circles at the top are vents as you say. I've no idea what the lower circles are but looking at clearer photos of these locos, they appear to be mesh covered as per the air horns. Although they go missing on the D6306-D6333 batch (the only batch I have a keyed diagram for!), they re-appear on the D6334-D6357 batch. Presumably the guys at Project22 will know. RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted January 26, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 26, 2016 No.s 1 & 2 are definitely Speedway Jcn at Laira with the 'Castle' in No.2 coming off the Speedway. No. 4 is North Road as already noted. The one which slighty puzzles me is No. 3 but I think it is probably Laira coal stage.

bike2steam
All on the scrap lines at Old Oak, I think the King was 6028, the track nearest is the main entrance to the passenger loco side of the 4 turntable roundhouse, with photographer standing on the north-side coaling line, pics were probably taken mid to late 1962. RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted January 30, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 30, 2016 Oh, another vanished post from last night - so to repeat - No.4 is definitely Old Oak Common and I believe the other three were also taken there as Paul has said.
