RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted April 23, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 23, 2018 A weekend project, collectors look away now !! A Kernow limited addition 150/2. Added passengers, kadee's, extended the exhaust pipes so they don't finish mid-air, and weathered. Cheers, Phil.

Top work as always...the 150 must be working the last train on a Friday night.......drum role please...coz subminiature humans will be leg less!! (Drunk!!) As Phil has a fetish for chopping legs off. Check out the post on his vtec set! Hope you included the 2 or more 'customers' in the toilet! Any one who has been on a last train to any where on a Friday or Saturday night will understand. RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted April 29, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 29, 2018 Part way through the next project before I realised I hadn't taken any pics. But I guess most people looking at this will know what a standard HTA looks like ! Anyway, I saw DB Schenker liveried HTA 310552 passing through York (see pic) a couple of years ago, and thought it would be worth modelling. I know it's since been converted to a CGA with the addition of a 'roof', but I'm conveniently ignoring that fact !! Progress so far includes stripping down, removing printed detail, White and Red colours added, and gloss varnish ready for tansfers. Cheers, Phil.
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted May 8, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 8, 2018 Decals on, varnished, and rebuilt. With a 'standard' one for comparison. Cheers, Phil.
Jack374
Excellent work Phil...I see you’ve used the good weather to your advantage! Oh, wait...I mentioned the weather so now it’s raining (in Lancashire at least!) Is it just me or does it look like you’ve stretched it somewhat...or shortened the EWS liveried one...the next project perhaps? Keep up the top work, Jack. RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted May 8, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 8, 2018 It rained here in God's county earlier too !! I know what you mean but they're both still the same length, and I think we both know who's been buying up any cheap HTA's to shorten..... Cheers, Phil. RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted May 30, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 30, 2018 (edited) Nice easy job finished. Plates and detail parts added, front footsteps painted white, and a light weathering job. The plates are fabulous, far better than my photography skills !! Cheers, Phil. RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted June 18, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 18, 2018 Picked a few of the NPCCS that didn't need renumbering to work on, and this is the result. Cheers, Phil.
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted June 19, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 19, 2018 Started the next few, so I'll give a bit more detail into what I did to them, in case anyone is interested !! First stage is an enamel wash called Neutral Grey by AK interactive, touched onto the door-shuts, hinges and bumpstops, as well as run along the solebar. I treat one side, then leave it long enough to look dry on the solebar, before dragging a toothbrush in downward vertical strokes, from the roof to the chassis. Followed by the same action with a softer short, flat brush. This gives (hopefully!!) the dirt streaks, and tones down the shine of the bodywork. Pics show an untreated coach that's waiting for renumbering, for comparison to one I'm working on. Cheers, Phil.

RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted June 23, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 23, 2018 Next job is to take the bogies off and give them a coat of frame dirt. For me, it spoils the whole effect if a model looks really nicely weathered, but when it goes round a curve, the tops of the bogies are perfectly clean. Or worse still, the wheels haven't been turned, so they have clean stripes when moving !! Cheers, Phil.
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted June 23, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 23, 2018 Bogies back on, then the underframes are sprayed from the 4 diagonal angles, to give a fairly liberal coverage all over. As can be seen in the background, I have an old record player turntable with a piece of 4" x 2" wood with a length of track on one edge. The coach is stood on this, to allow an upward angle to the spraygun as the rest of the underframe is treated. Pics show the coaches at this stage. RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted June 23, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 23, 2018 I wanted the P.O. Red vehicle (and to a lesser degree, the intercity liveried one)to be cleaner than the others, as it would have been in service for less time since it's repaint. These went through the same process up to this point, but the paint was thinned more, approx. 2 parts white spirit to 1 part paint. The others were done with a mix of approx. 1 part white spirit to 1 part paint. I find it easier to do it this way than to just put less paint on ! I generally use a hairdryer between each stage of the process. The pics of the underframe show before and after drying, and these 2 vehicles at the same stage as the others. RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted June 30, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 30, 2018 Bit more detail on how I did the roofs of the coaches. Pic 1- coach before work commenced. Pic 2- coach with a 50/50 thinned 'roof dirt' spray applied. Pic 3 & 4- weathering powder dusted onto the wet paint from a tea strainer. Pic 5 & 6- the powder has been dusted in a side-to-side motion, using a large soft brush. Pic 7 & 8- another coat of thinned 'roof dirt' applied. Pic 9 & 10- roof after being blasted with a hairdryer. Cheers, Phil.

RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted July 1, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 1, 2018 Second batch completed. The Intercity and P.O. liveried ones didn't get the weathering powder on the roof stage, and the TPO's only got a light sprinkling, but otherwise the same process was used. Cheers, Phil.
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted July 2, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 2, 2018 Had these 4 wagons stashed away for a while. As the layout is currently transforming into retro mode I figured I should do something with them ! They are 2 clean and 2 weathered (I'm not a fan of factory weathering) versions. The long term plan is to have a rake including a couple of Warflats with 2 LandRovers on each, 4 Warwells carrying something a bit more substantial, and a selection of VDA/VEA/VGA's (of which I already have a few), and maybe a KFA carrying some Red 20' containers. I've no real idea if this is a legitimate formation, but it 'feels' right to me !! As the wagons shown here are really only in an interim condition, all I've done is strip some of the factory dirt off the decks and then weathered all 4 wagons. The LandRovers have only been added as I've already got them. As the rake progresses the vehicles will be 'tied down' on the appropriate wagons with chains or straps, etc, but for the time being they can have a run out like this. Cheers, Phil.
virginhst539
rail express had a stand at model rail scotland with some formations displayed. the associated issue I cant remember exactly but december 2008 jumps to mind for some reason. i also very stupidly forgot to take any pictures of said display stand.... was informed by the team at hattons that an etch for the warrior cradle was in development. hopefully someone on here either has a copy or has pictures of the display. formations do however seem to vary quite a lot, could even mistake a couple of them for normal intermodal workings if they did not have a couple of empty warwells tagging long on the back.
