Looks like being an excellent show.  I've been unable to attend for the last couple of years due to family commitments but this year the family has been told to make other arrangements.....

Over the years Perth has grown into a really great show. I look forward to it every year and I recommend it without hesitation. Look at the number, variety and quality of the layouts on offer, the level of trade support, the facilities, the proximity to the railway and bus stations, easy and free parking and an entry price of £6 is half that of Model Rail Scotland. ( To be fair Model Rail Scotland have a huge cost to cover in the hire of Hall 3 at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre). Perth and District Model Railway Club should be congratulated on their achievements. Come June, I'll be making the 500 yard pilgrimage from my house to the show (which contrasts sharply with the 115 mile round trip I make to the Group of which I am a member.)

Stan,

We moved to Perth in 1987 and I remember going to a wee show in The Lesser City Hall a year or three? later. A fairly primitive event by todays standards but a couthy wee experience nonetheless. There have been occasions when I felt the show did not get the patronage it deserved but in recent years the queues waiting for the opening speak for themselves. Last year I took a young "nephew" (actually the son of a niece) for a serious dose of indoctrination into model railways. What did a 7 year old find the most engaging - the Lego railway which he could operate. Good to have this sort of thing alongside the serious modelling.

We really enjoyed taking Alloa there in 2010 - goodness, was it that long ago?

Mike

Hello Mike,

Yes, we started in The Lesser City Hall with a Saturday only show in 1991, 5 layouts, ONE trader and Mrs Rains supplying her homemade cakes, teas and coffees. We had had occasional shows in Perth before that but they were not annual. This first show was a toe in the water so to speak and since then the show started to increase in size and quality - firstly moving into the main City Hall then eventually to The Dewars Centre when the City halls were closed. We, then moved from filling one hall to filling two.

Was it really that long ago since Alloa was there? Time flies, we must contact your group to arrange a return visit for this fantastic layout!

As a fellow member of the Alloa group I can echo Mikes words.

Perth has a well deserved reputation and is one of the best shows on the calendar and at £6 its incredible value…well done.

A quality show and a great day out and hopefully we will have the pleasure of exhibiting our new large Finescale layout depicting Larbert in central Scotland when its complete.

Still under construction with the control panel being assembled at the moment and all the signals including ground discs being handbuilt to photographs.

It will hopefully be a worthy successor to Alloa.

Dave.

Hello Dave,

I look forward to seeing the new layout and of course - seeing it in Perth at the earliest opportunity! Thanks also for your very positive comments regarding our exhibition.

When I think of Perth I always remember 'Westford'..was it 2009?..not sure.

What a fabulous layout and one you could truly stand at all day.

Is it still on the circuit..haven't heard of it for a bit.

At 59 feet it makes Alloa look compact!

Always look forward to Perth show hope there is room to move about this year  as last year was a nightmare even had to take my rucsac off!! to get between stands

This year, we will have wider passageways and design the floor plan to ease congestion at pinch points. We were of course very busy which was a reflection of our popularity. Hope you find it easier this year.

Hi Dave,

Would you believe it was 10 years ago! 2006 - just checked my archive. It was a very good layout and very long but worth having at our exhibition.

Exclusively revealed here on this forum!

Our 12":foot exhibit this year ( a first for us) and situated in the middle of the ice rink as a focal point will be a Scammell Scarab unit in British railways livery. Photo will appear here soon. It will be interesting to see how it looks in the hall and what our visitors think of it. We were also offered a locomotive - maybe another year! May be tricky getting a loco into the hall afterall....

Two big choices to be made the week of the show then..........

23th June - Europe - should we stay or should we go.

25th and 26th June - Perth Model Railway Show - which hall to go do first, Hall 1 or Hall 2.

Or...

To view European or British layouts!

Oh, .... and a scale model of the Forth Railway Bridge in the other hall! More details on this in due course but it has never been seen at any model railway exhibition.
