Shannon to meet the Irish Tea Shop

Reports here suggest that there was a disagreement on where talks should be held. Reportedly the Irish camp wanted to host the President in a local castle and the White House camp wanted to host the Irish at the Golf course. They settled on the airport.

Sadly I am off-topic, unless this thread is to encompass airport lounges as well as aircraft.

Just testing the water here, but if people are really interested in lounges I can post a picture from the Qantas international first-class lounge at Sydney, where the flight departure information is displayed on genuine, working, Solari flap indicators,

I like lounges a lot, and aircraft (a little less!), so posting either is ok (for me).

At Manchester, (apart from leaving), the only good thing is the "1903" lounge.

Today I "copped" all 5 Airbus Beluga A300-600s. Within 24 hours!

Here it is, taken early on the morning of Saturday 20/4/19 as we were waiting to fly to Noumea (New Caledonia) for a short holiday:

Sorry about the glare on the left - the rising sun was shining straight through the lounge windows.

Are there really 9 flights leaving at 7:10? (Edit: And all from gate 26C!)

Or was the time cascading/clattering through the changes at the time you took the photo?

(It does look in good nick.)

Kev.

(Edit: Just answered my own question!)

All the same flight, but several code-sharing flight numbers.

This weekend sees the 2019 Swansea Bay Air Show, a magnificent event which takes in the 5 mile sweep of the bay and, when the weather is good, allows for excellent displays. I didn't get to see it today [and probably won't tomorrow], but I did spend an hour or two at Fairwood Aerodrome [somewhat optimistically called Swansea Airport] this morning and saw this pair of Spitfire Mk5c and Mk14 [fabulous Griffon growl], a Canadian-built Catalina and a pair of Merlin-engined Hispano Me109 types. The sound of the four fighters taxiing and taking off in quick succession was stirring to say the least.

Fairwood is not the easiest place to photograph from as everything has to be shot through a chain link fence, hence a couple of these are a little cloudy.

Not a real plane (at least on the jacket front) but the artist got a lot right on the drawing of the plane:

Note that it is not my type of music, but I just had to get the album for the jacket artwork.

Only caught a quick glimpse but we had 3 spitfires over Churchdown this morning - wondered where they were going?

There were supposed to be five at Headcorn (Kent) for their show this weekend. As there are normally only two there, one being a recently-built twin-seater. the other three must have come from somewhere

What are the 'German' aircraft?

Fairwood was in-filled using slag from the Cwmfelin Steelworks tip, between Landore shed and Cockett Tunnel; it was apparently really in a dip when they started. I remember, back in the 1960s, when there were commercial flights with Dragon-Rapides and Dakotas. I think the operators were Cambrian and Dan-Air.

Cheers Brian

Staverton (our local airport) is often used as a stop off for aircraft in transit - we had that Catalina a few weeks ago, it waddled off to a tremendous roar!

Those are Bouchons Brian - ME109s built under licence by the Spanish - with Rolls Royce engines! As featured in the Battle of Britain film. Genuine Daimler - Benz engined ME109s are pretty rare birds....

Thanks, Phil; I think I might have encountered them before at Blackbushe, when I went to see Dylan there in the late 1970s; we rounded a corner and were confronted by JU52s, Heinkel 1-11s and pseudo Me109s. All Spanish copies...

Yes the paradox is that when the Battle of Britain was filmed the producers sourced an entire German air force from the Spanish  - Bouchon 109s and HE111s. They struglled with the british aircraft - only 3 Hurricanes and many late mark Spitfires.

Now its the other way round - no flying HE111s, a few Bouchin 109s but there must be gettng on for 20 Hurricanes and 50 Spitfires world wide...
