Love humming birds, they are just one of nature's perfect wonders.

Here's one I photographed back in April.  I have a feeder right next to the kitchen window,

handy for grabbing the camera quick !    Amazing creatures.

Is that an Allens? Or the more obnoxious rufus male.

The Rufus hummingbirds usually have a small war at our feeder every spring. It's always a juvenile male causing all the ruckus trying to sow his oats no doubt. The Allens are much less noisy and rather peaceful in comparison I have found but it's hard to tell them apart by eye.

Lovely picture!

Regards Shaun.

P.S. Happy fourth of July to you my friend. 🎆

The castle is going to need a few trees around it, so I had a go at making some cedars.

Starting by tapering a kebab stick with a spokeshave at each end and adding bark detail using a rasp, things got off to a quick start.

Several coats of paint later I was ready to add the branches from rubberized horsehair. Clumps were pulled away from the mat teased to a round shape.

I decided to airbrush these so set up the equipment and hashed up a simple spray booth.

When dry starting with the largest, the clumps were poked over the pointy end then slid down to a blob of my favorite glue.

Lots of Aqua Net was sprayed on and the trees carefully sprinkled with flockage.

Poking them into the foam hillside was the easiest part!

For the fences along the road in front of Castle Hill, I chose to make some similar to that in front of the station masters on Queensbury.

This time I upped my game a bit. A scrap of poplar was ripped square to 1.5mm.

Next, I cut them to 2" lengths and stuck them in a nice, neat row onto a bit of wide masking tape. Lines were drawn on at equal intervals.

562437477_Fences(1).JPG.fc31b31431325b9ec5736737076c6e32.JPG

Holding a lolly stick down on the lines I drilled out rows of holes with the Dremel.

They were sawn in half all at once with a razor saw while still stuck to the tape.

After staining they were glued into the foam using a height setter. Lastly, I knotted four lengths of 0.3mm beading wire at one end and treaded them through all the holes.

Flocking on Castle Hill has also been accomplished...

...and a wall has been painted and placed across the road from the Birch Hall Inn.

If I find time today, more scenic detailing and trees are planned.

Time for some trains.

Who was it said. "You can please some of the people all of the time and you can please all of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time"?

So, some of you might be pleased to see a pannier! It's about to take a short van rake of mixed provenance up the hill to Goathland.

Were it will be met by a J50.

1028869611_trains(3).JPG.019f92e850db4a9318ca6df35784f519.JPG

585 is on shunting duty there, where the vans will be shunted into a siding while a GUV is coupled up to the pannier for its onward journey.

There's a lot of brake vans in the kick back. Well, a lot for Goathland anyway.

2050833967_trains(4).JPG.cce12757ae60d0f83a0594d07671c406.JPG

Various wooden effects from fresh sawn lumber to old, weathered cable drums are to be seen on the wagons in this rake awaiting an engine to come and take them onward to Whitby (or in this case Bradford via Queensbury).

That bus again under yet another bridge, topped off by an ex-NE J27.

That Pannier tank had one hell of a 'Trip' working, was 'Mileage' involved ???????

manna

There has to be a dozen responses to that Manna.

It could be the scale milage from the attic to the garage or the short run it made from Castle Junction, road over bridge.

Remembering that Goathland is a preserved line it's journey might have been from Pickering.

It's about 110 miles from Manchester. (The closest GWR line). Then another 381 miles to Penzance!

So, somewhere between 20 feet and 491 miles mate! Hope that helps!!!😂

I guess that's nothing in comparison to your winter road trip.

Regards Shaun.

Thinking about it, I got that on Aussie eBay. So, Bachmann's made in China, from there it got sent to Barwell and probably on to some retailer. From there it might have been brought directly buy an Australian who ran it on his layout before selling it on to me in Oregon!

The body at least is definitely well travelled. The chassis resides under my Lima BR. J50. The chassis on the pannier gets swapped out now and again for the GW one it came with from Scalerail in Eastbourne! I'll dig that out later and give it a run on the layout. Good opportunity for a photo shoot! Got to keep Bogie happy!

G'Day Folks

Hi Shaun, Slowly heading back to SA, 13,000k's so far. I manage to see the diesel Railcar that runs between Normanton and Croydon (look that one up), very poor picture.

Saw a preserved goods brake in 'Texas' Qld.

And also managed a Queensland country passenger train at 'Jericho'.

Last pic is of a 3' Goanna, wandering across the campground.

That Goanna looks like it could give a good account of itself. I wouldn't fancy coming face to face with one of those critters!

Seems like you're enjoying the wandering about mate!

Yeah Goannas, have a weird habit, if scared, they run and climb the tallest thing around, and if your the tallest thing around !! more than one person has had a Goanna Turban, and with those long claws, they can do some damaged.

Loving every second out here, haven't seen any TV for more than a month, sometimes it's been so remote, not even Radio.

Going off grid sounds bloody fantastic! If I could I'd take a road trip and head out to Steens mountain and then south. Utah and Arizona are on my bucket list! Arches, Brice, Monument valley...🤩

Now you're showing your age (so am I).

I do miss Scale Rail. Especially the old shop on Willingdon Road. A nice afternoon's ride on the scooter over to Eastbourne to stock up on kits etc! Some of which are still in my kits box such as a Triplet Restaurant set.

Some more images of the layout as promised. All taken with the phone.

This evening's work was just a couple of trees. This first one is made from twisted garden wire. I applied some of that super PVA to hide most of the twists and mixed some with a bit of fine flockaging for the trunk. The effect came out quite well.

Here it is Painted with dog bed stuffing applied, sprayed with cammo brown, my oak mix fixed in place with Aqua-Net and poked into castle hill.

There's a J50 on a freight trip from Keighley to Bradford with just two coal wagons and a brake van.

More enjoyable viewing - great stuff.

Is that a cat on an overturned rubbish bin in the last photo?

If so, I cannot recall seeing it before.  Having said that you will now tell me it has appeared in 20 previous photos dating back to 2015.
