RMweb Gold 81C Posted October 24, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 24, 2017 I have to say, you make it look all so easy. He does and it's annoying I can't keep up that pace, now the cold weather is nearly upon us and it's becoming too cold to go in the garage for hours on end It's nearly time to get all of my half finished one's out of their boxes and get on with them some only want a lick of paint.

lofty1966
I have to say, you make it look all so easy. Thank you. Out of all the cut and shuts the restaurant body is the easiest to play with. Not too many doors to accidentally sand away the details. Chassis on the other hand is a labour of love. I have made a jig to help keep truss rods to same(ish) length. Also have made a spray jig for the door droplight frames which saves a lot of messing about.

lofty1966
Lofty, Any chance of a pic? Khris Sure. It's nothing to get worked up about but it does the job.Downside is I end up with a painted thumbnail holding the jig down tight. It's a scrap piece of coach side with grooves filed in the back to allow for door hinges which also aligns the jig along with the plasticard bottom piece Edited October 25, 2017 by lofty1966
kandc_au
Thanks for that Lofty. At the end of the day so long as it works, it doesn't matter how scientific or unscientific it is......if it works is all that matters :declare: Khris

lofty1966
Also though not a Hornby Collett , these rare beasties were purchased for a sum of £9:50 ! An absolute steal ! Biggest shocker the sides and rooves are all straight. Almost unheard of. Edited November 2, 2017 by lofty1966

RMweb Gold The Fatadder Posted November 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 2, 2017 Interesting Is the E113 a single coach or part of a pair as per the 116? I have two pairs of ks E116 one waiting paint and the other in bits, your post has got me thinking about chopping up the latter into something else. Don’t suppose there is a similar design all third that could be chopped out of them....?

E113 on page 135 of Russell's 'Great Western Coaches Appendix Vol1' Brake Composite Corridor Carriage , so not B set material. Won't be getting the 'flashy' paint job , I can assure you. RMweb Gold The Fatadder Posted November 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 2, 2017 I have a need for a run down non corridor third, (to go with a run down non corridor clerestory brake in a workmans train. I will have a look in Russel and see if there’s something suitable that can be made from chipping together the two of them...
Miss Prism
The E116 compartment pitch is standard early-Collett non-suburban, so probably could be used for other diagrams like a D91.
lofty1966
The E116 compartment pitch is standard early-Collett non-suburban, so probably could be used for other diagrams like a D91. Major problem with using the K's models in a cut and shut is their whisper thin door lines (moulded outwards like the Hornby Railroad coaches) and hinges . Far too easy to obliterate them. Miss Prism
The quarterlights on the Ks are a bit too big as well.
cctransuk
Major problem with using the K's models in a cut and shut is their whisper thin door lines (moulded outwards like the Hornby Railroad coaches) and hinges . Far too easy to obliterate them. But surely that makes it much easier to intentionally obliterate them, and replace them with prototypically correct scribed lines? It'd be the work of moments using a sanding stick, small engineer's square and a scriber / scrawker. Regards, John Isherwood.
lofty1966
Somebody needs to steal my razorsaw before I cut up all the worlds Hornby Railroad Colletts. Heh heh heh. E115 and an E118 on the go.
