RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 28, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 28, 2018 SWMBO is not keen on me taking the chest freezer to the show, and to be honest it's a right pain getting it in the car.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 29, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 29, 2018 Build time: about 15 hours Days to go: 2 Today I shall be mostly adding the rest of the cork around the track and then base painting before the grass & ballast is added. I still need to add the wiring and the off-stage return loop.

RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted November 29, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 29, 2018 Nice baseboard supports. Don't think I've seen that done before. That's going to be a bit tricky for exhibitions. I mean, how does one lift the lid to get at the ice creams.... Rob.

RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 29, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 29, 2018 Exactly. Mind you, we're not eating too many of those at the moment. Done nothing this evening, far too cold in the garage for painting, glueing or ballasting.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 30, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 30, 2018 So, last day of modelling - what's left to do? RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted November 30, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 30, 2018 Add Peckett. Stu don't need a Peckett , he needs one of them new all singing and dancing Deltics.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 30, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 30, 2018 An all singing, all dancing Deltic wouldn't fit on the length of std gauge track. A Peckett would, but some people aren't being very generous...
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 30, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 30, 2018 Grass at the back - done. Ground levels behind track - done. Ground levels at front - done. Rails cleaned of paint - done. Wires to rear supply point -in place. Main building stuck down - done.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 30, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 30, 2018 (edited) A few more pics of the rest of today's progress (so far). Yes, it looks a bit rough in places, but as we all know, a good covering of snow makes everything look much better. RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted December 1, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 1, 2018 Ok, so not quite as much done as I'd hoped, but reasonable enough to make the layout presentable. Grass and some snow added, concrete painted, fascia completed. Lighting was a complete failure, the LEDs were not bright enough. 8
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted December 1, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 1, 2018 Build time: About 20 hours in total, some more productive than others. Still to do: Some ground areas need completing All ballasting Lighting Detailing Doors Set dressing with munitions.

RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted December 1, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 1, 2018 Sh*t !! Get Sentinel from loft!! Double sh*t - SWMBO still in bed... Not your fault. SWMBO should have been up ages ago to do your breakfast. You have enough on your plate.......or not in this case..... In addition Mrs Stubbers could have bought you a Peckett. Bad form all around really.

RMweb Gold SHMD Posted December 1, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 1, 2018 Looking really good. I've enjoyed following this build. Now all the "fill in" jobs can be done at your leisure. This is generally called "tinkering" but some serious procrastinating can ensue. Like, adding signage that states the bl~~din' obvious. For example "No loco's past this point" next to the standard gauge drop onto the narrow gauge lines! Kev.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted December 1, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 1, 2018 KMRC had a Peckett for sale on their stall today, for less than £90. I was quite chuffed how well I was uninspired to purchase it.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted December 3, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 3, 2018 (edited) Overall, quite a successful debut. I finally got the return loop working, which meant I could wander off during the quieter periods and view other layouts. The transporter wagon worked most of the time, especially when no one was watching, but needs a slight tweak to the positioning and possibly a better wagon with a longer wheel base / less overhang. The scenics need improving quite a lot in some areas, but this was sort-of planned for and is a further process rather than rip it up and start again. Surprisingly, the lack of a ballast wasn't noticed, until I mentioned it, but it will be added. The Nissen hut needs bedding in properly, with a little cinder path. The grass terraces at the back need finishing off, and the toilet block needs glazing and also bedding in. For lighting, I used the unit from Tinner's Forge, though a bespoke one will be added, and the facia will be clad in coloured card to improve the consistent look. Yep, fun and pleased with how it came out. Edited December 3, 2018 by Stubby47

(See posts #484, 492 and anything else by Sheepy...) I refer the honourable gentleman to the answer I gave a few posts ago - (#497) - that exact item was on sale by KMRC and I didn't feel any urge whatsoever to pick it up , never mind purchase it. I am immune.
