RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted April 19, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 19, 2018 I wish someone would have told me this before I bought a Heljan one two weeks ago.... Two westerns on a Bristol based MPD layout would still not be enough Liam! Phil
RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted April 19, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 19, 2018 Looks like some more 00 westerns, including a chromatic blue one to. chromatic blue looks interesting, but nearly £300 for a sound fitted one...
RMweb Gold MikeParkin65 Posted April 19, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 19, 2018 chromatic blue looks interesting, but nearly £300 for a sound fitted one... A Loksound or Zimo plus speaker will be at least £100. The loco is £150. So sound fitted - which not all are confident to do especially as the Western involves soldering for less than £50 seems pretty reasonable to me. RMweb Premium newbryford Posted April 20, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 20, 2018 chromatic blue looks interesting, but nearly £300 for a sound fitted one... Probably be about £250 from the usual suspects.

robertcwp
D1043 wasn't chromatic blue. It was rail blue with small yellow panels.
PeteB
I really, really, hope that the new batch of BR Blue ones don't come in BR Purple with lemon yellow ends, to match the class 73's. The first batch of Dapol Westerns (of which I have one) had the blue and yellow just right, IMHO. I'm still waiting and hoping for another run of 73's in the right shade of blue. RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted April 20, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 20, 2018 D1043 wasn't chromatic blue. It was rail blue with small yellow panels. Since when have Dapol let the facts get in the way?!! It won't have applied plates presumably, so an easy workaround. Mike.

RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted April 22, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 22, 2018 Can someone tell me the difference between BR Blue and the Chromatic Blue? Thanks, Samuel. The general percieved wisdom is that there is not a lot of difference in the actual colour, it's the application which makes a slight difference, although other views are available. First maroon small yellow panel Western - D1011 Western Thunderer November 1962 Last survivor - D1046 Western Marquis emerged from Swindon in Blue May 1971 So pretty well spanned the decade! Pteremy
If you are looking at Western Dragoon, D1034, then according to www.brdatabase.info it was maroon with small yellow panel from 15 April 1964.
