This was an empty coaching stock working of the β€˜Midland Pullman’, from Crewe Holding Sidings to Doncaster West Yard and was in connection with the following days West Highland Pullman rail tour from Darlington to Oban and return.

A couple of weeks ago, Laira depot turned out Cross Country power car 43384 in Intercity Executive livery, renumbering back to 43184.

I must admit, it does look good in that livery...

Visited York yesterday and saw five Class 43 power cars.Β The first two was the LSL Midland Pullman which I mainly went to York for.Β

Β

Midland Pullman liveried 43046 Geoff Drury 1930-1999 leads the train into platform 3.

The National Railway Museum can be seen in the background in which sister loco 43002 Sir Kenneth Grange is preserved.Β

Β

Trailing behind was Intercity liveried 43049 Neville Hill.

I also wanted to see two Crosscountry services which were being worked by the HSTs.Β

Β

Unfortunately due to an event while behind a TransPennine Express Class 68, I missed the 10:30 HST that arrived on platform 10.

All was not lost though, I still had theΒ 12:39 service to hopefully see andΒ the LSL Midland Pullman was running and was stopping at York which I mainly went to York for and there was 43002 Sir Kenneth Grange in the National Railway Museum.Β

Β

12:30 came, and I made my way over to platform 9 where the service would come in. However, much to my disappointment, it was being worked by a Class 220 rather than the supposed HST. Gutted.

I was sitting on some benches on platform 1 when I heard something approaching. I looked up thinking it would be a 220 or something but I was taken aback when I saw this:

Β

Upon seeing this unexpected surprise,

I hurriedly made my way to platform 10 to get a closer look.

Class 43378 leading

You can use Realtimetrains to check CrossCountry allocations on the day.

Β

You can even search for individual power cars, units and locos operating with any company that participates in "know your train".

I had used it before I went to York to check what time the LSL Midland Pullman was coming.Β

Β

The one service I had planned to see was marked down as a HST nut they must have changed itΒ

Perhaps create an account over on HSTGen for the most up to date info?

Β

I find they are very good at posting about late minute ad hoc changes.

And 43047. This replaces 43049 Neville Hill.

They've painted four like that now I understand, essentially giving each power car a spare now. Hopefully that will prove sufficient!

Β

(Tbh, although it perhaps upset the homogenous image, I wasn't personally unhappy with the Swallow replacement!)
