They've painted four like that now I understand, essentially giving each power car a spare now. Hopefully that will prove sufficient!

(Tbh, although it perhaps upset the homogenous image, I wasn't personally unhappy with the Swallow replacement!)

I loved the look of 43049 on the train.

And here it is about an hour before it reached you speeding northwards at Temple Hirst Junction, between Doncaster and York, with power car 43047 leading...

diverted via Barnsley

Is that somewhere near Elsecar?

I went out near Ecclesfield to photograph the Network Rail HST measurement train yesterday, also due to go via Barnsley. But watching its progress on Traksy, it came to a halt for 10-15 mins just before Meadowhall, then disappeared off via Swinton. I'd guess a route knowledge problem and time to rearrange a route with the signallers. Oh well.

I was watching the progress of the NR HST too !!

Yes it is !

If you're driving up from Hemingfield, towards Jump, just after crossing over the railway bridge there's a Public Footpath sign pointing Left.

Park on the main road, and walk down the path to another railway bridge.

The pic is taken there, looking towards Elsecar.

View looking towards Wombwell, from same bridge-

Same Footpath, before getting to bridge, Elsecar station is just beyond the 'S' bend-

The Footpath carries on through a field, giving decent views-

Some photos from the Blue Pullman tour from Crewe to Aviemore on 23rd July.

43049 during the leg stretch at Perth:

43046 trailing:

The set sat for the duration of the time in Aviemore and all of the Scotrail services were replatformed around it.

Despite having paid quite a lot for the trip on the Pullman, the friend I went with was desperate to get a service train back as far as Pitlochry. Apparently he 'needed' the miles from one of the powercars!

Journeys end, back in Crewe:

Rigged to the front of 43046 was a GoPro and charging pack. There was filming throughout the tour, including a crew onboard, as there is a documentary coming out next year. I think the documentary looks at the wider LSL operation, not just the Blue Pullman.

43301 on the rear of an XC service during an extended stop at Cheltenham (09/09/22). The set sat here for some time as there was a trespasser between Cheltenham and Bristol Parkway. I like the raised angle for this photo but would have preferred it if there wasn't that pillar in the way!

43290 looking very tatty (09/09/22) at Crewe on a test train underneath broody skies. A monsoon was about 15 minutes away!

CrossCountry 43184 and 43366 were turned out to work The Severn Valley Adventurer railtour on 27th September 2022, from Leeds to Bridgnorth on the Severn Valley Railway.  This was a railtour organised by CrossCountry and Modern Railways magazine.

43184 stands ready at Leeds with 1Z43, the outward working...

I've identified the power cars as 43172 (top picture) and 43042 (bottom picture)

I'm not entirely sure the 43172 is the correct number but it's what I could make out by zooming in.

43194 Okehampton Castle, on the left.

43155 Rougemont Castle, on the right.

194 is the only one I noticed with the nameplate significantly lower than the others.
