Steadfast
One from yesterday. Still carrying a pretty fresh coat of EMR purple with Colas stickers, 43274 sits in Westbury on a Network Rail Infrastructure Monitoring Train. 43251 was on the other end (sadly blocked from view by my cripple shunt for later), with a layer of vinyls resembling an archaeological dig, as one logo was covered by a slightly different shade red vinyl patch. If I've worked it out right, it is in ex Virgin East Coast livery, with a patch for LNER. On top of this was another patch for the EMR logos, then Colas on top of that. With an ultrasonic test vehicle in the formation which are 30mph max when testing, this was running more as a Low Speed Train than a High Speed Train! The set had arrived as 3Z22 from Derby, and we believe it to be (besides crippled power cars on wheelskates etc) the first HST in the yard. RMweb Gold The Fatadder Posted April 15, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 15, 2022 In amping all of these photos of HSTs I don’t suppose anyone has a top down photo showing the leading edge of the cab roof/windscreen down to the nose?  Before I start attacking old Lima models to get them closer to the Hornby one, I want to double check the real thing (and so far haven’t managed to find a suitable photo)

RMweb Premium keefer Posted April 18, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 18, 2022 (edited) Interesting that @Phil Mc photos show the exhaust deflector plate only 'in front of' the exhaust ports - when fitted, the plates included the ports (presumably up to the end of the next roof panel). That said, the ports themselves still have raised surrounds with cross-spars. Edited April 18, 2022 by keefer

It was a mod done by FGW, from memory it made removing the engine easier as you didn't need to remove the deflector plate to remove the roof panels over the engine.  Those pics also show that contrary to some manufacturer's popular opinion, the roof on the FGW dynamic lines sets was blue, not a black stripe.  Jo 1
