Double track lines singled after Beeching?

I have a glimmer of inspiration for a new layout but need some information...

I know of a few former double track lines which were (partially) singled after Beeching - the West of England Line from Salisbury to Exeter, the "Cotswold Line" from Oxford to Worcester and the line from Swindon to Stroud (singled Swindon - Kemble?)

Are there any other examples? The lines need to have remained open with a passenger service, I'm not interested in freight only lines.

Thanks

Tim

if you search through PwayOwens site there should be box diagrams for all these places when they were double line.

Hi Tim

Oxford - Worcester was singled from Norton Junction to Ascott - the dastardly plans of The Stationmaster (On this forum) for two single lines from Norton in to Worcester never came to pass thank goodness!

Theres also the Ledbury to Shelwick Junction section of the Worcester to Hereford route....

Cheers

Phil

Crossing Batty Moss Viaduct (aka Ribblehead :onthequiet:  ) on the S & C

Wasn't that done much later as part of the plan to reduce maintenance costs after the S&C reprieve in the late 80s?

The Exmouth Junction to Topsham section of the Exmouth Branch was singled.

The Severn Beach Branch from Narroways Junction to Avonmouth Dock Junction was singled.

When was the section of the North Devon line between Cowley Bridge Junction and Crediton singled?

(this may have been done later following flood damage).

St Budeaux to Bere Alston was singled (now the Gunnislake branch)

edit - and when was Dorchester WR to Castle Cary singled? Also the Frome Loop line?

cheers

Ambergate to Matlock.... and Peak Rail onwards to Rowsley.

In the Daily Mirror this week - photos being taken by Darwin award participants on the crossing at Matlock Bath station.

Indeed, and the 'journalist' is pretty low down the intellect and vocabulary food-chain too:

Frome scheme  (Clink Road Jcn to Blatchbridge Jcn via Frome station) was singled in August 1970.  Castle Cary - Dorchester singling commenced in April 1968.  Henley branch was singled in two stages commencing in June 1961, Windsor (WR) branch was singled in August 1963 throughout from Slough Bath Road Jcn.

If you want a variety of passenger trains and like diesel hydraulics then the first two would be ideal

Isn't the question about stuff that happened after Beeching?

How about the East Suffolk line, when was that singled?

I'm not quite sure if the OP means any lines that were singled anytime post-Beeching or ones that were singled as a consequence of the report.

When was Hurst Green to Uckfield (partially) singled? And Moreton to Dorchester? Farnham to Alton was done in the 80s.

Late 80s/early 90 for Hurst Green - Uckfield. I wrote the Investment Submission in ‘88, I think.

In East and North Yorkshire, the line between Bridlington and Scarborough, was singled between Bridlington and Hunmanby, then from Filey to Seamer South Junction. 1970, and 1983 are the years in question.

Regards,

Rob.
