Meanwhile, what is this siding for ?

warren_all.png.5810fd827af8f953b3573ac61dab014c.png

I had a drawing somewhere but cant find it

Basically the goods train arrives and travels into that siding and then reverses the wagons into the required sidings

Ah, so it's a headshunt, of sorts.  I was just thinking you could use the very end of that siding for the coal yard, as it's next to the loco shed.

The only issue is that I don't really want to take up points/track that have already been wired, weathered, glued in place and point rodding attached

thanks for the plan and this bit of info. I had forgotten the route in to the station is from the top right under the bridge and was thinking  it was the terminus end of the station. If the point is fixed already, then no reason to take it up.

Ref the coal bins, I'm of mixed mind. One side of me says with the effort you put into the detail of other areas such as the goods shed, it would be a shame not to get the bins located prototypically, away from the siding. The other half says, Rule #1, do it the Frank way.

Yes a headshunt, I should have learnt the terminology by now

Rule 1 applies - put them where you want and ignore everyone else.

I would say don't bother with those short bits between the points if you can get away without them, you could add that length to the sidings, or gain a bit of space at the end of them (using your original track plan for the sidings if you so desire)

Don't bin the bins! Put them and the office into a box for a future project.

The short bits are simply there to space out the sidings and move them further inward to gain a little more yard space, it was a compromise

I assumed 40mm ctrs would be a bit tight for passing wagons etc so I aimed for 50mm

I think that the track should be nearer to the front because . . . . .

You haven't catered for the other 3 seasons. . . . . . . . . . .

There isn't enough room for the drag strip . . . . . .

How can you now justify the acquisition of a 3D printer?

I promise to plan my next layout better

To be fair, that's something I should do. Ordinarily, I don't and in the case of my layout, Sheep Dip, it shows in certain areas.

But we learn by it.

Far too many bends, totally unrealistic.  And still nowhere to put the coal staithes !
