I asked Graham to repost it here, because to me it provides sufficient justification for your original positioning of the coal staithes / pens / bins at the side of the short siding

Note that at Lambourn the coal pens are actually on the same siding as the access to the goods shed, so any wagons unloading coal would have blocked access to the shed until they were moved.

The above plan seems to me to be perfectly fine, given that.

Al.

Thanks Al its appreciated

Pity about the car. An MG would have been far nicer.

(runs for cover)

There's already six actual girls in the picture, why would you need a Morris Oxford in drag?

Yes, but that photo of 'Lambourn' (wrong thread ???) is not real, it's a Brian Monaghan photo of a model in RM from the 1970s.

I didn’t have any cobblestone material so I’ve drawn and printed my own

I think the cobblestones are too big and too regular so I’m going to try again….

…..however this is the general idea

Thinking more about this, the floor might be bricks, and laid the other way, so less chance of shovels catching.

That makes sense I might have some brick sheet

In the meantime I’ve redrawn up the cobblestones smaller and randomly adjusted the angles of the odd one

Real cobblestones, after many years use, tend not to be level, either. Just sayin'.

Well, if you will keep driving Land Rovers over them. But being left under coal shouldn't cause too much movement.

I don't think Brian Monaghan would publish a picture of his saying Aerofilms at the bottom!

This is a plan of Lambourn station after the GWR took over. Borrowed for illustrative purposes from Great Western branch line termini by Paul Karau.

Excuse the rubbish photo, it's legible here!

I didn’t have to wait long for the paint to be touch dry

I’m going to leave it overnight for the PVA to dry then I’ll add a bit more black weathering powder up the timbers and on the floor etc

Hopefully you can just about see the cobblestones are a little wonky

That looks great Chris, but I know this will offend your brain, but it looks a bit to tidy and needs some serious spillage around the bottoms.

This was my Trebudoc.

I’m waiting for the PVA to dry before adding any more and once on the layout I can extended a little onto the yard after I’ve ballasted upto the cobblestones if that makes any sense

As a slight diversion I’ve been looking at appropriate vehicles for the time period of mid-late thirties

This is an Autocraft 1930 Austin 5 cwt van white metal kit

I’ve not done a fantastic job to be fair mainly due to being impatient and not allowing the paint to fully cure before assembly but looks pretty good and more in keeping with the period

Unfortunately one of the castings was damaged (one of the headlamps was deformed)

However the nice people at Autocraft are sending me a replacement part, not many manufacturers left that would do that!

I may or may not use this one but I’ll definitely look at getting some more

In keeping with my motorcycling interests, I have a  BSA Scout three wheeler, their answer to the Morgan.  All I plan to do is pare down the rib which represents the door shut line on all of these models and reinstate it with a sharp scriber.

Although these models are probably older than we are, they make up nicely with a bit of OCD and are a nice period addition to a layout. You can get away with having quite a few even if your layout is set in the sixties, because they were simple and people kept them going. They're cheap enough to make into abandoned / stored vehicles on any layout from the 60s onwards too.

Whilst I was out the other weekend I got talking to some folks who were just out for a run in a 1934 Morris Minor tourer and a 1929 Alvis 12/50 roadster.

Gentlemen, you have no excuse. :D
