I think it might be better to stick to the original plan and pop the coal merchants office and staithes in the bin because that's where all the trouble started

Its a shame because I like how they've turned out but its causing far too much grief than it's worth

It would be a shame to not use the hard work you've put in. But, perhaps more importantly, given the significance of the coal to the people of the time, to not have a coal yard feels... like something's missing. Unless perhaps the coal merchant is one or two stops up the line, and ships pre bagged coal up here to be put on a lorry for distribution, but that feels unlikely.

You had a great option with it next to the point, with the hut on the right. Given the constrained space, while away from the rails is more common, next to the rails is not completely unheard of.

But it's your layout, and it will look great what ever you do.

I'd like to point out that there actually is a place called Bunny, on the Leicestershire Nottinghamshire borders.

You may have to convert to GCR London extension which had the odd goods only feeder in the area, such as the British Gypsum workings at Gotham (I kid you not.)

There's also a place near Bunny named Warren Hill.

Like Alice, you may have fallen down the rabbit hole....

Pity about the car. An MG would have been far nicer.

I asked Graham to repost it here, because to me it provides sufficient justification for your original positioning of the coal staithes / pens / bins at the side of the short siding

Note that at Lambourn the coal pens are actually on the same siding as the access to the goods shed, so any wagons unloading coal would have blocked access to the shed until they were moved.

The above plan seems to me to be perfectly fine, given that.
