Not so common on the Western or on branch lines though. What Chris is doing will look fine from a model railway perspective. The non-existent off-stage banner repeater solves the sighting question.

There's a good prototype example at Ropley (MHR), but I can't find a photo at the moment - the down inner home signal is both very low, and on the right-hand side, with a banner repeater just before the bridge.

Not only that, but the down main starter has a co-acting arm (due to the footbridge between the platforms), so there's examples of both ways of solving the sighting issue!

As I'm on the PC I've just noticed your signature.

Interestingly whilst working out what depth I needed to drop the signal to achieve the required height the answer in millimeters was actually 42

Can't beat a bit of avoidance behaviour.

It's going to rain for the next few days. So there's little point in planning to do anything outside.

But as it's still summer, it won't be too cold (or too hot.) to spend a few hours in the garage.

You just ran out of excuses. :D

Yeah, you're right, I did.

See:

Cracking job mate.

Thanks Al

Actually surprised myself to be honest

Almost seems a shame to bury it in ballast

I’m sure there’s an easier solution but this was the best I could think of without cutting up the signal and disturb the wiring or damage the inner workings etc

Just need to cut the hole….now where did I put my 25 x 35 rectangular drill bit

Maybe there is, but you've found an excellent solution that fits your skillset and tools, and which you know will work.

I’m sure you could just cut a section out of the post, being careful because it hollow and carries the wires to the led and shorten the operating rod…..but I didn’t fancy trying that because knowing me I’d saw through the wires and make a pigs ear of shortening the operating rod

That doesn't sound easier than quickly knocking up a bracket!

Well as the Joker said to Batman “you can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs”

So I’ve removed the ‘rings’ as best as I can

Then again he also said “never rub another man’s rhubarb”

Anyway

I’ve left the back edge of the top ‘ring’ in place to help support the ladder because when I tried to take it apart the tab broke away

Does anyone know off the top of there head how far up the post the black should be?

Also should the black stripe be wider?

Thinking back to St E's earlier post (!) about the white stripe being 3mm, without any knowledge, I would suggest that the black stripe would mimic this.....

4’ from memory but I could be wrong!

You could try asking on the Elmore thread as I’m sure Johndc will know.

I thought that too but knowing my luck I’d have done that and it be wrong

Thank you, I won’t be doing it yet as I’m going to break the habit of a lifetime and actually wait for the white to dry first, unusual for me I know

I think this is a Western Region arm as opposed to yer actual GWR product.

Keep forgetting I have it.

I think it needs removing to the Room of Doom.

Hope this helps.

That I can answer confidently as I’ve just measured the one I keep in the garage.  (A wedding present!)

8” same as the white on the front (and they’re in line too).

Been there, done that, you beat me to it!  Mine is also a WR enamel version not a wooden arm but I doubt that dimension changed.

Yes, that's right - but if you can measure 2.67mm with your ruler you're a better man than I, Gunga Din.
