Incidentally, another layout owner (no names, no packdrill, as they used to say) suddenly realised - having been unexpectedly weighed down with other tasks just before the weekend - that he hadn't organised curtains to sit under the layout. As he left home he nicked the throw off the sofa! I'm glad that I wasn't exhibiting then, you'd have seen a slice of the Great Western,, dressed up in Mexican blankets! 1

We left Taunton at about half-four, and were home for half-nine, and that includes stopping for tea at Gloucester. Al. I'd like to see it in person some day. RMweb Gold Popular Post Alister_G Posted May 3, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 3, 2022 (edited) Most of you who regularly follow this thread will know the origin of the photographs taken of Ladmanlow, and the special selling point (if I may put it like that), but for newcomers and casual passers-by I thought it would be worth a recap. There is no photoshop trickery involved in the production of most of the photos (although there may be the occasional tweak) but the primary method of creating the (hopefully) realistic images is to take the layout out into the countryside, and photograph it against the natural landscapes. The layout, which measures 6 feet long by 18 inches wide, is placed on a pasting table in a field, and then by aligning the layout, and carefully selecting the camera angles, what you see in the photo is the real landscape behind the layout, matched as closely as possible to make a seamless transition from one to the other. The alignment of the table is altered to meet whatever bit of the layout I want to shoot: I hope that explains how I do things, a bit more clearly. Thanks for looking, Al. RMweb Gold Popular Post Alister_G Posted May 3, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 3, 2022 The first time I took the layout out, was at dawn on an August morning in 2019, when I tried to capture the model against the sunrise, and the mist rising from the valleys below. In subsequent outings I improved my photography, and probably had better light to play with as well! Thanks for looking, Al. 11 3
