Can’t decide whether this is a modern classic or old car, my dads pride and joy back in the mid 80s, ford escort XR3, 40 years old if it was still about today

That's a Chester registration - how do I know?  When I wanted to buy my first (and subsequently only ) brand new car, I wanted a Chester reg, prefixed with a letter 'S' ( D xxx STU), but the dealers could only get PTU or RTU, so I got a DM instead (D898RDM) . :(

Think it looks better without the stripes,  but they were definitely a thing of the time

Headlight washers were a rare option on mk3  escorts.

They were a rare option on quite a few cars like xr2 and also MG metro and montegos.

I viewed a mk1 metro turbo a few years ago and that had them which was probably the last one in existence with them. Not sure what happened to the car it needed too much work for me

Finally after 15 month of putting off fitting it I finally put the flared side skirt on the passenger side of the convertible to match the drivers side

ive also swapped the white detailing for black, painted the mirror caps gloss black and fitted black vinyl stripes, unfortunately I made a mess of one of them so took it back off but forgot to take a pic if it with 2 stripes on before I did!

I’ve also done some work on the stereo, new head unit, speakers and amp

Some pics of my ‘85 polo which i thought may be welcome on here.

it was owned by my best mate, who passed away 10 years ago end of this month, ive had the car pretty much since then and will never let it go.  It was essentially stock when i bought it from his parents other than a lowering kit, so its come a long way.

It has a 1.6 16v, jenvey throttle bodies, run on a megasquirt ecu ect

full cage, corbeau seats bla bla

airlift performance air suspension, management all hidden under the false boot floor,

custom image wheels

wide arches and lots of bits smoothed off.

it also gets used and abused! And has gotten me a few wins in the GTI festival autotests at santa pod which is awesome.

cheers

eric

The Polo is lovely, always had Mk2 Golf Gti’s so that appeals.

Love the R33 as well, especially in midnight purple. Mine in GT was midnight purple and something like 850bhp and who doesn’t love the sound of an RB26.

Both not exactly to my taste (horses for courses and all that) but lovely cars.

I saw a TR7 convertible yesterday for the first time in lord knows how many years. I never liked the TR7 hardtop as it always looked a bit ungainly but the convertible was a very good looking car.

Also heres my R33 GTR

its one of the 100 uk spec models which is pretty cool, always wanted one since playing gran turismo as a kid!

560HP, also on air suspension with a few other bits done to it,  bit of a beast.

I'm having, what I believe Mr. Clarkson termed, a "crisis"!

I've spent some time running some adverts from a recently re-found 1990 publication through PhotoShop, thought they may be of interest here.

Additionally, does anyone know of a running modelling thread they may come in useful as files for advertising hoardings? There's 1970's & enamel signs threads in Modelling Help & Tips but wondered if there was a more modern ad topic.
