Brian's 7mm Diesel Workbench, Belated up-date!

Recommended Posts

Pulled all the masking tape off and bingo! Must admit I am surprised no paint sprayed up under the masking tape, especially round the horns. This is all I will be doing now until next week as I am off to a bus rally in Newport on the Isle of Wight with my mates VR. I have also painted all the window frames and primed the curtains, seats and tables.

Hi Jon, the VR was indeed the red and white Oxford one.

A couple of pictures of us getting on and off the ferry.

I take it this is the bus you are reffering to?

It did rain a little bit whilst we were doing a run from Newport to Godshil! It was times like this that you wish you had sorted out the de-misters  :fool:

Even managed a ride from Shanklin to Ryde on the Underground.

That's the one. Sounded superb and rode a lot better on the island roads than any other bus I rode on.

Another project that I am working towards in to turn my Class 66 into a Eurocargo 66. I have just received the decals from Precision Labels. Unfortunatly 66211 is now a Euro shed but John Pleck did not do this one in his range so I chose 66033 as it's one that I have worked in. So I will have to re-number as well as remove the other transfers already on my model. Pete Harvey is doing the etched wing mirrors and ploughs for these in 7mm.

Where do you get 7mm Class 66s? Are they RTR or kit-built?

Class 66 is in kit form, PRMRP, ex Post-War-Prototypes.

Quite basic by modern standards, some of the castings aren't the best, but with car and time, will make up into a decent model.

I miss read the post, and thought we were on a T.V. program, that was saying, that the casting was not that bad, but with a bit of work and time, she will make a decent model.

Must read the posts better,

OzzyO.

Thank you Jeff. I had a look at them. They are reasonable and indeed with a few modifications it would be nice. I however check for running qualities before the looks. The class 59 seems to have a ridiculously out of proportion snow plough but that is an easy fix.

Hi HornbyFAN

The 66 I built as Jeff says was the PRMRP one as it's all there is. The kit was modified from a 59 kit but there were a couple of bits that did not get done unfortunatly, these mods were done when it was sold by RJH I believe. You refer to the plough on the 59 being out of proportion but as 59's don't have ploughs I think you mean the deep bufferbeam for want of a better term. The models is far too high so I made a new deeper one on my 66. I also modified the exhaust silencer. All the PRMRP models have the same drive system and I have had no problem with these on my models.

I have not done much this last week due to long day shifts at work as opposed to last week where I had short night jobs which gave me all afternoon to get on and paint the Inspection Saloon. This week all I have done is put the transfers on and paint the interior.

I now have the etched wing mirrors and snow ploughs from Pete Harvey for the class 66 conversion to a EuroCargo one, sometime in the future.

Finished it  :imsohappy:

It's surprising how long it takes to paint the interior walls, ceiling, floor and chairs and tables. Oh and curtains! Anyway I have glued all the insides to the body or floor, and here it is. The Precision Labels transfers have come out very nicely. I think I said earlier that the white line is HMRS as is the Emergency Lighting Point and brake release stars on the solebar. The maintenance panel on the solebar is from Fox I think.

One anomaly with the lettering on the front lower, it says it's got an ETH index of 2 but it ain't got any ETH!

Oh I am tempted to matt varnish the roof as at the moment it's in Ronseal satin the same as the rest of it.

Superb work as always Brian.

I agree, perhaps the roof - from the photos rather than the more reliable MK1 eyeball - could do with letting down with a touch of matt varnish/dulcote.

Are you going to weather it?

IMHO it looks superb unweathered (I dont often say/think that of a model!).

BTW, I have finally gotten aroundtuit around to starting a layout Thread on here - after a little cajoling - if you have a minute to take a look.
