ozzyo
Pete Harvey sent me a lost wax and etch diesel coupling to try. I found out it's a direct replacement for a Heljan one. I have put it on the 31 so will take some pictures soon. Hello Brian, could you please post some photos of Pete's couplings before you assemble them. TIA. Happy new year all in Rmweb land. JeffP
I'd be interested to see those too. Are they a vertical, or horizontal swing?
brian daniels
Good job you reminded me about these couplings as I had forgot o put the piccies up here. This is what you get. And this is what they make up like. They go straight into a Heljan bufferbeam if you want to change them or they can of coarse be used on anything. Here is an enlarged and brightened picture of them in my 31144. And well I am here, a couple of pictures of 31144 on the Bourne-End test track. I am busy building the other Conflat L's I have from Bill Bedford as I bought 4 but only built one last year. I will get all 4 done and then paint them. I am still waiting for the containers though from him, think a reminder is in order as I have had them since May.
JeffP
They look quite good, but the etched links look a little thin? On the real thing, those two long side links take all the strain........
Pete Harvey
Brian has been a bit heavy with the file.
JeffP
What thickness metal are they etched from, Pete?
Pete Harvey
Jeff They are etched from .4mm brass sheet that is 17mm thick @ 1:1 Pete
brian daniels
The last week I have been building my 3 other Bill Bedford/Mousa Models Conflat L's. Thought it was about time I finished them as I bought them in May last year. Mind you I still do not have the containers to go on them! One thing that bugging me though is the tie bar between the axle guards. It's etched with the axle guards but should be bolted on top of them under the axlebox. So I think I will get some strip at the Bristol show in 3 weeks time and remove these on the model and replace them. Then I can get on and paint them. I still have 4 Warwells to finish and a JLTRT BG and my JLTRT 27030. New years resolution was to get them all done and sooner rather than later! You may have noticed in the pictures the fence behind the models has been renewed, no more looking through the holes into the neighbours garden.
RMweb Premium boxbrownie Posted January 9, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 9, 2014 You mean no more looking through the holes for them when they try and figure out what all that noise is coming from the strange bloke next door
Softvark
I still have 4 Warwells to finish and a JLTRT BG and my JLTRT 27030. Really looking forward to this as I also have a JLTRT BG to build - after I've finished by class 37/
Gallows Close
Hi Brian, I wanted to click "like" for the fence and "craftsmanship/clever" for the models - but I can only choose one... So I'll write it instead! Best wishes, Chris
brian daniels
Been doing a bit of weathering on the Heljan skinhead 31 conversion, brings it to life a bit now. I have tried to replicate the rust that seeps out of the welded on body stripe but I think it looks better in the flesh than on these pictures. Anyway you can see it for yourselves at Bristol in a couple of weeks. Must do something with the lifeguards as they are below the railhead I see. I think the ends will need snipping off. or the first point will do it for me. I keep looking at this model and thinking how different it is to the one I did when they came out. I wonder if filing the "ridge effect" off either side of the headcode box and adding a rainstrip will make it look as good as this one? The "face" off the standard 31 looks flat on this model but I have not done anything to the skinhead as far as this goes but it looks so much better. It must be an optical illusion thing as it's the same model apart from the roof dome being filed back a bit.

I'm still sitting here with a pristine Deltic looking down on me. I really should have go at doing the same. Regards Bob
RMweb Premium keefer Posted January 12, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 12, 2014 lovely modelling as always Brian The main difference between the two that I can see is that the 'box one has windscreen grommets more prominent than on the skinhead? (or is it just the photo makes it look like that?)
brian daniels
A couple of the pictures of my skinhead Heljan 31 on a friends layout. A couple of pictures of "Meld" with it's white windows. And a trio of my Heljan Deltics.
JeffP
Lovely! Had Meld failed in the first shot? That's a cracking layout. Any details, like size, where it's set etc?

Pete Harvey
Brian Steve is asking about the Buffer beam pipes used on a Hymek.
brian daniels
I take it then you have the cock at the bufferbeam and a piece of hose but no gladhand. You should have ordered a set of gladhands, part number MM 113524.
