Thought for the day. How Am I going to survive a day without RMWeb.  I may even head for the shed.

Jamie

Heading for the shed is better than shedding your head.

The fork handle may arrive today.

Safety note of the day:

I am now using a full face poly carbonate visor rather than safety goggles then using an angle grinder:  I had a wire bush attachment fitted to one of mine, and I spent a few minutes having to pick metal beard from my chubby cheeks

Who will be the first contributor to TNM to get the  new clap?

Probably not the first time. So does the blue ointment still work.

I have extolled the Czech Lager, sold by Sainsburys at a competitive price and actually brewed by Staropramen.  It actually has the taste of a continental lager.

Not around on Tuesday.  I could of course buy the Staropramen, at a suitable premium for the "name" but actually brewed in Luton and tasting of sweetened piss water.  Insufficient margin?  Too much hassle to import?  Such is progress.  Bill

I've never been a great fan of lager, although I have been known to drink it on rare occasions.

I still like a glass of cider, but my consumption is far less than it used to be.  We've been making our own cordials this year, elderflower being one and a redcurrant and vanilla being another (which is by way of an experiment.)  Our friend over the road keeps sending me bottles of various cordials she makes in exchange for labouring tasks beyond her husband safe abilities (He is recovering from heart surgery).

If I drink beer, it tends to be during the winter.

When it's really warm we drink a lot of cidre doux which is only 2% abv. It's very refreshing in hot weather and doesn't leaveca slightly sticky feeling in your throat.

I’ve been tested for it and it isn’t me!

Nor me.  I had a swab test as part of an experiment on asymptomatic positives; then was offered one of the first antibody tests.  Bill

Yesterday was a bit of a demolition delight.

I chopped up quite a bit of timber that had been behind the garage and bagged it for the wood burner:  Not our wood burner, we don't have one, but for one of the neighbours.  Some form of reciprocal reward will be forthcoming:

Like this perchance?

This is one of her daughter's creations.  Georgie's Bakes:  But she also does afternoon teas, and canapes and sponges and ................ I need to lie down!

I also trimmed the hedge that is at the side of our driveway so that I can now get out of the car without ending up with a faceful of thorns.

More general mayhem will ensue this morning around the Hippodrome followed by another trip to Blist's Hill this afternoon.

I wonder what I can find in this industrial scrap yard to complain about this time?:mocking_mini:

I have a Minicraft drill which has given sterling service over the years.  It has a rubber connector between the motor and drive shaft, which needs replacing every so often. The first time it went, I contacted Squires who sold me the original drill, and asked about a replacement. Squires posted not one replacement out, but a bag of about 20, which was brilliant service from them.  Twenty five or so years down the line and this morning I had to put in replacement connector No 3, so I suspect the bag of connectors will still be around after I've shuffled off this mortal coil.

What was interesting was the collection of Mini drills I seem to have collected over the years.  Two Dremels, the aforementioned Minicraft and three Aldi specials. (I did have four, but I gave one away!)  I've also got a rechargeable mini drill.  but how do we collect so many over the years?  Normally, I would have one Dremel mounted in a router table, and the other in a vertical drill stand............but the stand is really useless, and it sits on a shelf in the workshop taunting me to improve it.  The trouble is, with the Minicraft double pillared drill stand, I don't need to fix the errant Dremel, so it can continue to live in isolation.

But they are very useful tools, more so if you can get then with a scroll chuck rather than a collett chuck.  One of the Aldi specials has a duff spindle lock, so is almost always attached to a flexible drive shaft, whilst the others tend to get left with various cutting disks in place.  It's a pity the manufacturer(s) didn't standardise on a standard mandrel size, at that would make life a little easier.  Especially when I am the world's finest at losing the various colletts on the bench.

The trip to Blist's Hill got cancelled due to the report of inclement weather.  Looking out of the window proves that the forecasters have got it wrong again, so I'm now in line for some enforced gardening duties again.  The arrival of the fork handle a day early, and my foolish decision to getting it fitted before lunch has has resulted in an instruction from higher up the train of command, to get weeding.

The weather today has been mostly Manx.  In that this morning you couldn't even see the top of Peel power station chimney the cloud base was so low, and it was persisting down.  Now it's dry, bright and warm.  Probably snow this evening.....

Not sure about this 'New Clap', it was a log-able offence at sea.  Only person I know caught it was the Captain on one ship, so I doubt he logged himself.  That was the old clap of course.

Just got back from an expedition to the beach. 60 miles away near Royan. It was quite strange to head off somewhere some distance away. Also we went on a motorway for the first time since March.  The beach was pleasant with views ofvthe mouth of The Gironde. Thoughts of the Cockleshell  Heroes came to mind and I was able to watch the ferries shuttling backwards and forwards from Royan to La Verdon. I must go over one day. There is a branch line from Saintes to Royan and one from La Verdon to Bordeaux that goes through the Graves vineyards so some sort of circular trip could be on the cards. Oh by thecwaybit was sunny and 30 degrees.

Would you trust the Royal Mail, or any of the courier companies to get it to you in one piece?

After the latrine duties, I was redirected to the veg patch in order to carry out weeding duties!

Apparently, since I wanted to do it and the rain has stopped I was now expected to carry out the deed.

I'm looking forward to a bit of me time tomorrow:  Collect the rifles and a metal bender which sounds like fun.

This modelling lark is getting very tedious.

im building up a train of Bachmann LNER fish vans and just bought another four of the weathered variety. I’ve already got all the factory running numbers so I’m renumbering the new one en block. I’ve a already done a couple last year and all I need to do is change a digit or two and replace them with something different and the result is almost indistinguishable from the factory lettering.

Anyway, when this latest batch arrived I started removing selected digits and the chalk marking and everthying was going very well. So last night I got them all out ready to add the missing digits and got out my sheet of HMRS transfers and blooming hummer the size is different, just by a bit but noticeable. Obviously last time I did them I didn’t use this sheet but I’ve been through all my transfers and can’t find the ones that are a perfect match. I think I’m going to play the waiting game, I’m sure the correct ones will turn up somewhere, in a drawer, in box etc. I know if I remove all the Bachman lettering and redo the whole numbers the correct ones will turn up.

I hate having part finished jobs lying about, especially when they are so simple to complete. Grrrrrrrr.

This is why I had a two month moratorium on modelling.

I just needed to get things sorted out and work up a new schedule of work.

As it stands, it's likely to be three months by the time I get around to clearing the work bench.

I've got lots of plans:  Too many in fact, one of which is scrapping my big layout and building something else.

As far as transfers go, I gave up trying to mix and match the efforts of rtr manufacturers and the specialists.

Railtec have given me outstanding service for complete locos and vehicles in the past, so they tend to be my first port of call.

I've got it easy with transfers, there are no RTR vehicles available on my layout so I control the supply of transfers. Mostly HMRS but a few Powsides. That reminds me I need to get some coaches that two friends built for me letterred and numbered. Somewhere there are two etches for PC 54' clerstories that I managed to get from Mr Waterman. They would look nice made up.
