And this is why a period correct roof rack is a must-have on any classic vehicle that also happens to be a daily driver…

My dad kept the roof rack from his old 1959 Minx (complete with this big white rubber feet) hung up in the roof of the garage for years, but not having a car it would fit and assuming that number one son would buy something reasonably modern and sensible as transport, chucked it out.

What did I turn up with? 1958 Vauxhall Cresta. Bizarrely about half the price to insure than the MK2 Escorts most other teenagers seemed to run.

It would probably have pulled that signal out of the ground in second gear too...

Little jobs as promised. The cycle / parcels shed is installed and the last patch of bare plaster behind the platform now has its first layers of static grass.

The signal box has been lightly weathered and a tube hidden inside to carry lighting wires. I think that there's a couple of other jobs to do, so if you see something that I missed, please speak up! :D

The Frankenstein Peco platelayers hut?

Ongoing and was my test piece for the moss on the signalbox roof.

It does have flashing cut from a bank receipt.

Does that mean that the hut has cost me another £20 ?

Or does it mean that I had a pleasant meal with Miss R on our afternoon out and free flashing on the hut?

Everything else is in basic colour for now.

I also have sheep to paint....

On my MG Midget, the bottom end of the signal would have been strapped to my Paddy Hopkirk boot rack and the front-seat passenger would have had to hold up the rest clear of the windscreen...

I do like how you've weathered the roof.

It's dry brushing with enamel except the lichen which is a mixture of pale yellow, dark green and a little filler powder which is only loosely mixed together so that the colours aren't fully blended.

It's based upon the rooves visible from the spare room window.

Installing the rest of the fencing means that I have to finish and plant the station building of course.

So the order of construction is pretty much working itself out.

Plus if I get the main parts built along the rear of the layout, the backscene can be fitted at last.

At least visitors will know where they are now.

I've seen photos of GWR running in boards with a Mazawattee Tea sign hung beneath it, so I added one.

What a superb set of photos, I like them muchly Rob. Very Great Western and executed with skill and an eye for creating the look of a GWR branch yard. You should be pleased.

Your goods shed reminds me of the one I’ve built of Chudleigh, soon to be finished and positioned in a similar setting to Aston on Clun.

Lovely modelling.

Best,

Bill

Evening Rob.

Aston is looking very nice indeed and as has been said, the view across the goods yard is particularly pleasing.

As you know, I also take a lot of photos and they really do help to 'see' things.

There are some very nice camera views emerging along the way as well.

Spiffing.

Rob.
