This is an interesting juxtaposition, the 87 only ever had TOPS but the class 81 in the loop still had cast numbers

These are magnificent, probably 74 maybe 75, I don't have my WTT's to hand, but I'd love to figure out what service the 81 is on. 4S58?

AC Electrics on mixed fitted/ unfitted goods is my absolute new fetish.

You'll love this one then. Includes a brake tender as well.

If you click on the Flickr image of the class 81 at Beattock, there appears to be a brake van on the rear. That would suggest

the reporting number would be class 7,8 or 9. I suppose if one of the wagons is carrying dangerous goods, then it could

also be a class 6, but there doesn`t seem anything obvious in the train.

If you ferret around in YouTube, there is film of the southern end of the WCML during steam-diesel-electric transition, which shows a right royal mixture of freight train compositions. Until I saw it, it had never occurred to me that for a few years one could stand at Watford Junction and see practically the entire Hornby Dublo catalogue, and a good part of the Triang one too, go past in a single morning.

look for films by  A G Denyer ( I’m sure his son worked at Selhurst on the southern in the 1970s).

I’ll have a dig through my Scottish WTTs when I get home from Devon later this week.

in the mean time a couple of Class 83’s I stumbled across on Flickr recently.

A rather esoteric solution to weight issues on Lauder Light Railway

They did rarely wander to other lines in Edinburgh locality and noted on Gifford branch I seem to recall.

Lauder Light was remarkable survivor of a branch line and LRO process.

Taken before the days of 'Twistlock'-fitted ISO containers, when 'boxes' were bottom-lifted.

Not quite, the two containers on the right are fitted with 'twistlocks' and 'Freightliner' fittings, and can be lifted from the top or bottom.

Conditional WTT Section B, 7th October 1974 to 4th May 1975 lists:

8S58 21:52 Electric Carlisle to Mossend, due departure at Beatock 22:55.

Mandatory WTT Section B, 7th May 1973 to 5th May 1974 lists:

7S58 Class 37 to Highstreet, due departure at Beatock 15:43.

Those cover the possibilities in the ScR WTT's I have, perhaps someone else can shed light on the subject.

Again, apologies for the YouTube intrusion but it's probably better than a new thread and a few unusual elements in this video:

  • A old Tamper
  • Some destructive track testing including a G5 being purposely derailed
  • A 1938 colour recording of an A4 on the Silver Jubilee at speed

From the 'Behind the Scenes' DVDs (I've got all 4 volumes). Very interesting and informative.

ICI Roburite's at Gathurst

A rural railway

Gathurst would make a superb subject for a model.

I think we've had this one before.

More Roburite.
