RMweb Gold Popular Post Oldddudders Posted October 2, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 2, 2021 That looks like Slade Green. People seem fascinated by the DDs, so I'm sure they will sell. In practice they were route-restricted, and had inconvenient peak-hour dwell-times in stations due to the extra number of people using each door. They pre-date my commuting on the South Eastern, but I was assured that in the mini-skirt era they provided some views that could brighten a man's day..... 5 2 1
phil gollin
. Good luck to them, however it is a very weird choice as there were only 2 of them ! Although I am very biased, I would have gone for a 4-COR, used on the Western and central divisions of the Southern, pre-war Southern through to BR Blue. Oh, and masses of character. Still, as I said, good luck to them. . 2
wainwright1
That is some very nice news. I used to see them run past the back of my uncle and aunts house in Lewisham, but I never got a ride on one. I agree that it is an unusual quirky choice, but then, that is what KR specialise in. I think that they can do these two units in four liveries: BR green with all green ends. BR green with small yellow ends. BR green with full yellow ends. (Unusual for suburban sets). BR rail blue. I hope that they are not too expensive. Definitely have at least one. I would also like a 4 Cor/4 Res/4 Buf et al., but can wait for those. phil gollin
. Yes it will be fascinating to see what the price is considering what Bachmann charged for the 4-BEP. . 1
97403_Ixion
I was always fascinated by how these had an 'upstairs'... My Dad told me how they worked, though not sure he had ever seen one. Then one day I found a video (film) somewhere of people getting in one and it made more sense. I never rode on one - I only remember doing so on the unusual (at the time) 210 units... engine on full revs with little movement! These unusual concept vehicles really suit my kind of interest but I will need to see anticipated prices and I hope to get one (probably BR blue) but good luck to KR Models - certainly keeping up with a reputation for going for the unusual vehicles. I am sure there is a market there for people like myself as well as those with layouts that suit the era/location of the models... or just want something a little different - all good for the hobby and collector, alike!
Pre Grouping fan
The Hornby magazine article now works, price is £350 per 4 car unit with 2 motorised coaches and interior lighting. https://www.keymodelworld.com/article/kr-models-reveals-4-dd-emu-oo?utm_campaign=kmw social&utm_content=181763455&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&hss_channel=fbp-129246407114953 Edited October 2, 2021 by Pre Grouping fan
RMweb Gold BMacdermott Posted October 2, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2021 Hello everyone All the best to KR on this announcement! The units were High Polling in the 00 Wishlist Poll 2019 (the last Poll to run). Brian (on behalf of the 00 Poll Team) 1
Big James
Amazing. These units always fascinated but was long gone by the time I started my regular commute to dartford. Quirky seems to sell so good luck to KR models. Big James
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted October 2, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2021 I did get a ride on their last day, but only from CX to LB. Tony Carter was the announcer at London Bridge that day, and he was announcing their impending withdrawal to anyone who cared to listen.

Don't think that the 4 Cep or 4 Bep have two motor bogies, but do have the interior lights. These look very good for the money, so I will have to start saving my pennies. No doubt they will do an instalment plan again which will help spread the cost. All the best Ray
43179
Wow! - My mum remembers travelling on these - She really liked them - often telling me that in winter they were really popular because if you got an 'upper' seat - you stayed nice and warm, not sitting in a draught every three minutes when the train stopped again and the doors were opened. Although I imagine in summer it was quite the opposite... Jon 3
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted October 2, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2021 Looking forward to this appearing. Got an MTK folded brass and a resin kit of the 4DD in the stash which will now no doubt never be built. Cheers Darius 1
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted October 2, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2021 I don't think that anyone saw that coming! A really left-field choice. Like others, I saw these units almost every day at LB when I was commuting (early 1976) but never managed to travel on one. I think that I would have found it a bit claustrophobic.

I saw them (both sets) at CX but never rode on them - which would have been interesting as they were a fascinating attempt at getting a double decker into the British loading gauge. prtrainman
I saw these a lot when I used to travel to LB in the 60s on the way to school but never rode in them. Good luck to KR but I can personally only see them appealing to niche collectors, even though they apparently polled well.
gelboy45
I used to travel on these and politeness deters me from mentioning how cosy they were when one was 'courting'........... I'm off to sell the farm! Please, someone do a Bullied 4Sub Gerry 4
John Wass
I had better start saving my pennies for a 4DD and go into getting myself fit. Mind you a Bullied 4Sub would be just as good for me, less running. I do wonder why two motors are required. I had two of Bachmann's 4-Ceps which I ran together on my layout "Meopham East Junction" at many exhibitions in many countries. At one show, one motor re-programmed itself and I had to remove it. The train ran on and every time it stopped, I removed the lonely power car and sniffed it for overheating. All was well. One motor or two will not stop me having one on my home layout as I have retired and "Meopham" has been sold! NIK
Hi, Pleasantly surprised to see a 4 Car EMU announced by a smallish company after the price rises in Chinese manufacturing. I would like a Bullied 4 SUB even more. Regards Nick
RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted October 2, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2021 A really good idea and a pretty good price considering its two motor bogies, I can imagine this as being quite popular.
Wickham Green too
Only ever rode in one ( coach ) at Ashford Steam Centre - pushed/pulled by O1 No.65 I think ........ perhaps that should be their next project ? Maybe this announcement will trigger a proper debate about getting the two surviving ( motor ) coaches back together - and restored to presentable condition ?

If I were the DfT, I'd pay to have one/both restored, and stuck on a plinth somewhere in central London. Anyone demanding that the UK have double decker trains can then be invited to take a look.... The DMBS at NIRT has been gifted to the Sellindge 4DD Group, the plan was to move it last Thursday, but the weather and the current fuel supply lottery issue for the volunteers cause it to be called off.
